The summer going into your junior season is often a big one for prospects, as college teams are starting to set their big boards for the incoming junior class and begin to reach out to players. To help the coaches get a head start on the 2027 class, I wanted to highlight a few players who I think are poised to break out in 2025 and could become hot prospects by the time their junior campaign concludes.

Here are five 2027s that are primed to rise this season:

Blair's [player_tooltip player_id='720313' first='Ty' last='Tessendorf'] is someone I believe is on the verge of breaking out on the recruiting circuit. The Bears' sophomore put together another great season tape in which he showed his mix of size, quickness, and physicality. Tessendorf plays tackle for Blair but could easily kick inside to either guard spot with the size to fit well (6'4", 270 lbs). The biggest thing that stands out about Ty is his aggressiveness at the point of attack, making sure to land a powerful initial jab that can overwhelm his opponents. Ty also does everything on the hop, showing he can explode out of his stance and make his way to the second level to seal off linebackers when run blocking. Ty plays with good bend and power in his lower body, enabling him to maintain leverage and willfully drive his opponents off their spots when engaged. Great finisher— consistently ends his blocks in the dirt. Hard worker on the field who is always looking to bring more punishment. Jump on the bandwagon now!

Papio South's [player_tooltip player_id='1296774' first='Gage' last='Burki'] had several elite flashes last season as he earned a role on the varsity rotation. Gage ended his sophomore season with 28 tackles, 6.5 TFLs, and 2.5 sacks. I had the opportunity to watch Gage at one of our showcases and was impressed with his competitiveness and motor, both of which come across on his sophomore tape. The part of Gage's game that stood out was his quick get off, flashing a fast first step that allows him to attack and gain ground on his opponent before they're able to get set, and he had some plays where his speed helped him split the double team. Burki does a good job using his hands to break up any attempts to grab at him. Gage tracks the ball very well and shows a non-stop motor and lateral quickness to close on the ball effectively. Big year coming up for Gage!

Lincoln Southwest's [player_tooltip player_id='720132' first='Evan' last='Robinson'] is a player primed to take on a bigger role this fall and has all the tools to excel at it. Robinson was able to get some more experience in year two, finishing the season with 21 tackles, three TFLs, and two sacks. Right off the bat, Evan impresses with a strong 6'3", 210-pound frame that projects well for a college linebacker, while also reporting a 4.69 40-yard dash. Although the sample size is small, it's clear to see a well-rounded skill set in Evan, with his ability to rush the passer and defend against the run. He is quick to trigger downhill and does an excellent job plugging up gaps to stuff run lanes. Evan is capable of delivering the big hit, but also shows the awareness to go for more secure tackles to avoid any ball carriers slipping away. You also can't sleep on him on the offensive side, where he proved to be a brutal blocker and a massive asset in the run game, using great technique and enough power to end the play in a pancake block. Great athlete who is only starting to scratch the surface.

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1085199' first='Will' last='Gutz'] had an explosive breakout year in his first season as the feature back for Bennington. Gutz carried the ball 264 times for 1,308 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns, averaging five yards per carry. Gutz's sophomore tape was very fun to watch as he runs with a great blend of balance, vision, and breakaway speed. Defending Gutz seems like a tiresome chore with his willingness to chip away at defenses with tough, physical runs between the tackles, while also having the speed to break away in the open field once he's gassed his opponents out. Will demonstrated incredible contact balance, utilizing his strong lower body to keep him upright as he battled through multiple tackle attempts. He also does a good job seeing the field and being patient with his blocks, flashing a natural feel for where his blockers will go and anticipation for opening running lanes. Surprisingly shifty on his feet— Gutz showed the quick twitch and agility to juke, spin, and cut back even in tight quarters. If one thing has proven true over the past few seasons, it's that you NEED to watch out for those Bennington running backs.

Here's a two-way athlete who will likely make the jump to the rankings at the next update. Fremont's [player_tooltip player_id='1086177' first='Hudson' last='Jennings'] played receiver and free safety for the Tigers last season, ending the year with 135 receiving yards (team leader), a receiving touchdown, a rushing touchdown, and 17 tackles. Offensively, Hudson is a smooth route runner who is sharp at the breakoff point, allowing him to create separation from defenders. He also does a good job of finding the weak spots in coverage. Reliable hands with the strength to hold on through contact. Jennings is a good athlete, so naturally, coaches are going to look at ways to get him extra touches, including giving him some rush attempts. Early stock to buy!
