toting the rock. Will had a great first season as the Badgers’ feature back after recording 177 carries for 1,013 yards and 12 touchdowns, along with 15 receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown. When you look at Will, you see a running back who possesses a great blend of size, strength, and athleticism. Gutz starts his runs with great patience and vision, allowing him to follow his blocks while scanning the field for open lanes. Once he sees a crease, Will is able to use his top-tier burst to explode through the gap and can quickly accelerate to break away from defenses. He runs with a great balance, stemming from consistent pad level and a strong base, making him very difficult to bring down on first contact. Will’s well-rounded skill set can see him go from shifting and gliding through defenses on one play to dragging a couple of defenders as he pumps his legs to fight for extra yards on the next. Great receiving back out of the backfield and a good nose for the endzone. Schools like Sioux Falls, Midland, Peru State, Southwest Minnesota State, and Wayne State have already offered the Badgers back, with likely many more to come.
They seem to have almost a plug-and-play system at running back over in Bennington as they continue to churn out college-level backs year in and year out. As a junior, Will broke out for 1,013 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 133 carries. Will picked up an in-state D2 offer from Wayne State earlier this month and seems to be gaining momentum with programs like Sioux Falls (junior day visit), Augustana, Washburn, North Dakota State, Northwest Missouri State, Idaho, St. Thomas, Minnesota State-Moorhead, Dordt, Southwest Minnesota State, Morningside, and Chadron State.
***UPDATE: Will has received an offer from Sioux Falls***

had an explosive breakout year in his first season as the feature back for Bennington. Gutz carried the ball 264 times for 1,308 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns, averaging five yards per carry. Gutz’s sophomore tape was very fun to watch as he runs with a great blend of balance, vision, and breakaway speed. Defending Gutz seems like a tiresome chore with his willingness to chip away at defenses with tough, physical runs between the tackles, while also having the speed to break away in the open field once he’s gassed his opponents out. Will demonstrated incredible contact balance, utilizing his strong lower body to keep him upright as he battled through multiple tackle attempts. He also does a good job seeing the field and being patient with his blocks, flashing a natural feel for where his blockers will go and anticipation for opening running lanes. Surprisingly shifty on his feet— Gutz showed the quick twitch and agility to juke, spin, and cut back even in tight quarters. If one thing has proven true over the past few seasons, it’s that you NEED to watch out for those Bennington running backs.
