We just paused it while covering the Back 2 Ballin 7-on-7 tournament and catching on recruiting notes.

Time to dive back in on scouting reports. Here's a look at a talented group of quarterbacks:

Davis spins it for Rip City 15U on the 7-on-7 circuit. He'll throw his hat into the ring for the starting job at Bettendorf in the fall. I watched Davis slinging the pigskin at the recent Back 2 Ballin tournament in Cedar Falls. His strong arm allows him to get the ball into the smaller windows required for success in 7 on 7. Davis should do well when they open up a bit more in 11 on 11. He moves well and throws accurately on the run or on roll-outs. If you're looking for a 6-4, 220-pound QB, Davis isn't your guy. But he's athletic with a solid frame and a skill set we see work a lot these days.

Mericle still is growing into his 6-3 frame. He should be able to do so without losing any of his agility. His footwork is smooth and he delivers the ball accurately from multiple arm angles. Mericle does well in putting it on receivers in stride so they can gain yards after the catch. He should add zip on his fastball as he fills out and adds arm muscle. Mericle is definitely one to watch this 2025 prep season.

My schedule at the 2025 Back 2 Ballin tournament had me watching several of Corson's games for Flex. He's compact physically with plenty of room to fill out as gets weight-room work in. Corson already shows skills, particularly with how well he sees the field and the touch on his passes. As he adds strength and sharpens his game, Corson should continue ascending towards a high ceiling. He displays smooth throwing form and stable feet with a quick release.

Hawkins has been trained and developed well to date. His throwing form is technically sound, generating velocity with his lower half and stepping into his passes with accuracy. Hawkins has a thin frame with plenty of room to fill out without him relinquishing any mobility. He does well in getting the ball to his receivers where they can deliver chunk plays after the catch. Keep an eye on Hawkins this fall.

Poe shares the quarterbacking duties on Avalanche 15U with his high school teammate at Regina. Both are athletic enough to succeed if they moved off of the position. Poe flashes traits that point to him staying at the spot. He shows off a strong arm thanks to a solid frame that allows him to also thrive at linebacker. Poe's athleticism serves as an asset behind center, too. There's development time with the Regals starting a senior in 2025.

Gaffey shares quarterbacking duties on Avalanche 15U with a Regina teammate. He's athletic enough to stand out playing cornerback as well, but Gaffey has the raw tools to work out behind center. His height helps him see downfield and his arm allows him to get it there. Gaffey runs well and looks technically sound at the position. There's time for him to realize his potential.
