2028 Prospect Watch: IDLs To Watch

We're well into the offseason, and we're keeping things going ahead of spring workouts and summer practices. In a new series that will run concurrently with some of our other cornerstone content, like my <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/03/community-film-room-episode-4-2/">community film room series</a> or Matt Morrow's <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/03/deep-dive-union-county-wide-receivers/">county-by-county Deep Dives</a>, we're looking at what some of our 2028 players (both ranked and unranked) did as freshmen. On Monday, I looked at some of the <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/04/2028-prospect-watch-charlotte-area-dl-to-watch/">interior defensive linemen from the Charlotte area</a>. Here, I'm looking at five guys from around the state.    A large, powerful interior defenders, Moser did a lot of the dirty work as a freshman, eating up double teams and creating gaps for his linebackers to shoot. He has long arms and good strength, meaning he's able to keep offensive linemen at bay.     Chandler may eventually swing out to the edge, but right now, he's a long, athletic interior pass-rusher with decent upside against the run. He's able to maneuver himself to get into position to make plays and he made a bunch of them as a freshman. He was highly productive before he's reached his physical potential, so he's a guy we're watching as a potential rankings riser.     Delk is a high-upside 3-technique who already excels against the run, even against established teams. He had a great game against Grimsley last season, even in a losing effort. He's quick, especially for his size and doesn't look like a freshman. He's refining his technique and flashed some pass-rushing moves last season. He's a guy we think will continue to develop.     Atkins has a history of playing young players on the defensive line and Barringer rose to the occasion last season. Barringer is a tough player who fights through blocks to make big hits on running backs. He got plenty of experience as a defensive tackle last season and should continue to get better as a pass-rusher as he gets older.     A speed-first interior defensive lineman, Thompson had a great season on Rolesville's JV squad this year, racking up tackle after tackle on the inside. We've seen him in camp settings and have been impressed with his physicality and motor. We're waiting to see how his body develops and whether he stays inside or kicks out to the edge, but he's a guy we really like as a future varsity starter.
