2028 Prospect Watch: Greensboro Area DBs

We're well into the offseason, and we're keeping things going ahead of spring workouts and summer practices. In a new series that will run concurrently with some of our other cornerstone content, like  <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/03/deep-dive-union-county-wide-receivers/">county-by-county Deep Dives</a> (Matt Morrow is hitting the Charlotte area while I take the area around RDU) we're looking at what some of our 2028 players (both ranked and unranked) did as freshmen.   We have a ton of defensive backs in our 2028 rankings, so here's part one of three. I'm starting with a strong group of 2028 defensive backs from the Greensboro area.    Malloy's upside is easy to see, and as he continues to grow, he's likely a top recruit. South Carolina's Torrian Gray sees that potential and reached out with an offer. A two-way player, he contributed as a deep threat at receiver and a standout man corner. The technique, length, and play speed are there, he just needs to continue to add good weight.     Simmons' upside will be decided by his ability to put on good weight. As a football player, he's pound-for-pound one of the best defensive backs in the class, a guy who has great coverage skills and isn't afraid to tackle. Assuming he puts on more weight and gets to the 170-180 range by the end of high school, he's a candidate to be a Division 1 corner prospect.     Wall is a long, rangy corner with the potential to be an excellent prospect if he can bulk up and improve his quickness just a bit. He's not afraid to be physical and as he gains weight his press coverage abilities will only get better. His length and ball skills are both solid and we like his upside     I got around to Dobson's film later than some of the other defensive backs in this class, but I'm glad I finally watched it. I'm a fan of a guy who can play safety or corner and flashed both as a cover guy and a run-stuffing box safety. His frame can hold more weight and his physicality will be even more helpful when he fills out. Right now, he's a candidate to move way up our rankings.     Another versatile defensive back, Dines contributed as both a box safety and boundary corner as a freshman. His change-of-direction is impressive and helped him come downhill to make plays in the running game and make breaks on the ball as a corner. As he grows, he's a guy we'll keep an eye on.
