2027 Rankings Update 4.0: Quarterbacks

As we move closer to the heat of summer, the 2025 high school football offseason is in full swing. With that in mind, we have begun a new round of rankings updates. The most recent class to be updated is the incoming junior class of 2027. After officially releasing these rankings updates, I will now be breaking them down by position. To kick things off, here are our top quarterbacks in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky.    [player_tooltip player_id='374785' first='Zane' last='Johnson'] has climbed to the top spot at his position in his class following another very impressive season. Johnson led Trinity to a second consecutive 6A State Championship title, completing 162/296 passes for 2,001 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 14 games. Zane has shown very impressive accuracy, showing the ability to thread the needle and complete passes in tight windows where only his intended receiver can catch it. He has also shown the arm strength to stretch the field in the deep passing game. Johnson also scored one rushing touchdown as a sophomore. Zane currently holds offers from Appalachian State, Miami (OH), Eastern Kentucky, and Southern Mississippi, and I expect that list to continue to grow as he is a Division I caliber quarterback prospect.     [player_tooltip player_id='378831' first='Kade' last='Goodin'] is a quarterback who has been high on our radar for a while now and continued to impress as a sophomore, completing 172/319 passes for 2,189 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 10 games. Goodin has shown impressive improv ability when under pressure, showing the ability to scramble outside the pocket while keeping his eyes down the field to make tough throws on the run. He has also shown the arm talent to lead his receivers down the field in the deep passing game. Kade is also an electric ball carrier, leading his team in rushing this past season with 151 carries for 861 yards and 13 touchdowns. Goodin currently holds offers from Marshall, Southern Mississippi, and Eastern Kentucky, and I wouldn't be surprised to see more come his way heading into his junior season.     [player_tooltip player_id='205472' first='Emmett' last='Queen'] is another quarterback who has been high on our radar for a while now. He played in mainly a backup role at Covington Catholic last season but still put together some solid film. Queen throws an impressive deep ball, showing the ability to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride with ease. He also puts a nice amount of touch on his passes, showing the ability to put the ball in a spot where only his intended receiver can catch it. Queen currently holds offers from Eastern Kentucky, Miami (OH), and Toledo, and I expect him to continue to receive a lot of attention after transferring to Beechwood for his junior year.     [player_tooltip player_id='1050315' first='Max' last='Johnson'] is a quarterback who climbed up our rankings following a strong sophomore year. This past season, Johnson completed 143/225 passes for 2,001 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 10 games. Johnson has a cannon for an arm which he uses to lead his receivers down the field in the deep passing game. He has also shown the ability to escape the pocket to avoid pressure when needed while keeping his eyes down the field to find the open receiver. Johnson has also shown the ability to tuck the ball and make plays with his legs when necessary, running the ball 82 times for 118 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore. Max currently holds offers from Tennessee Tech, Eastern Kentucky, and Gardner Webb, and I expect more to come his way as he is a Division I caliber prospect.     To wrap up our top five quarterbacks in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='1157497' first='Dre'mail' last='Carothers']. Carothers has served as a backup the past two seasons but has impressed when on the field, completing 39/68 passes for 701 yards, eight touchdowns, and one interception this past season. Carothers has a strong arm which he uses to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride with ease in the deep passing game. He has also shown impressive accuracy, showing the ability to hit his receivers out of their breaks quickly in the short/intermediate passing game. Carothers currently holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky and I expect a lot of eyes to be on him this season as he takes the reins as the starting quarterback.
