The Raymond Central Mustangs opened some eyes last season after posting an 8-3 record and will return a good core of players for this upcoming season. One intriguing prospect who is set to return is junior FB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='487615' first='Tysen' last='Taylor']. Tysen played as more of a fullback/backup last season, but still managed to post 353 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, both of which should rise as he steps into a bigger role this fall. As I mentioned, Tysen played a mixed RB/FB role, showing he is just as effective taking the handoff himself or being a lead blocker for his backfield mate. Regardless, Tysen is a bulldozer when he gets going with his big 6'2", 220-pound frame, usually requiring multiple defenders to bring him down. Taylor runs with a mean streak, delivering powerful stiff arms and driving knees as he fights to tack on additional yardage after contact. He's a physical blocker who plays through the whistle and constantly looks to finish his blocks in the dirt. Tysen also possesses high upside on the defensive side of the ball, where he recorded a team-high 80 tackles and three TFLs, playing linebacker. As a linebacker, Taylor does a great job crashing downhill with a quick trigger when he keys the run and the strength to fight off blockers at the line of scrimmage. He is also a great tackler once he gets to the ball carrier.

Creighton Prep's [player_tooltip player_id='488119' first='Preston' last='Woodward'] is a player who, despite already having an offer from Midland, is still flying under the radar despite a solid junior season. Preston ended last year with a team-high 87 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, two interceptions, two passes defended, and two fumble recoveries. My biggest takeaway watching Preston's junior tape was the level of awareness he plays with, providing great coverage and run support from the safety position. He displays good eye discipline when reading the QB and can break down passing concepts on the fly to get to a good spot to make a play. Impressive range and closing speed on the ball. Preston also showed good ball skills with his ability to go up and snag the pass for himself or get a hand up to swat it away at the right moment. Physical tackler who uses good technique and power to chop down opponents, even had some nice tackles on bigger TEs and RBs.

The Millard West Wildcats will have some big changes next season as they welcome a new Head Coach, but one thing that should stay the same is junior [player_tooltip player_id='533084' first='Logan' last='Kracht'] making big plays from under center. Logan really impressed last season in his first year with the program, emerging as a dual-threat QB who can move the chains with his arm or legs. Several teams seemed to overlook Logan's ability to scramble and got burned for long gains, as he displayed solid burst when hitting the hole and acceleration to separate from defenders. He also runs with great vision to find open creases in the defense. I wish I had a larger film sample of Logan as a passer, but from what I've seen on tape and previous camps, he displays a quick-fire arm that can get the ball out fast and on the money. Definitely looking forward to seeing more from Logan this offseason.

Central City's [player_tooltip player_id='487604' first='Corbin' last='Kyes'] emerged as one of the top backs in the state and played a key role in the Bison's run to the state championship game. Corbin had a monster season in which he rushed for 2,007 yards and 27 touchdowns on 280 carries, averaging an impressive 7.2 yards per carry. Kyes is a strong, compact runner who plays with a low center of gravity, giving him a powerful base to help keep his balance while he fights for more yards. This strong base makes bringing him down on initial contact very difficult. Kyes does an excellent job firing through his gap with great burst and can hit another gear once he's reached the second level. Quick, shifty cutback ability in tight spaces with great vision to follow his blocks/find open lanes. Kyes also proved to be a threat as a receiving back and return man with 19 receptions for 191 yards, two receiving touchdowns, and two kickoffs returned for touchdowns.

Norfolk's [player_tooltip player_id='1617639' first='Isaiah' last='Wapelhorst'] is an under-the-radar defensive back who is set to bounce back in 2025 after battling some injuries last season. Wapelhorst played cornerback for the Panthers and recorded 11 tackles, three PBUs, and an interception. When watching Isaiah, my first takeaway was that he has a solid frame at 6'1", 180 pounds with decent length, which is a bonus at the position. Wapelhorst displays solid physicality in coverage with effective hand usage to break up passes at the catch point. He also looked comfortable in both man and zone coverage situations, with the quickness/agility to stay on receivers and the awareness/IQ to read QBs to figure out where they're going with he ball. Last I saw, Isaiah is set to compete at this Sunday's Combine Series Showcase, so I am looking forward to getting an in-person evaluation.
