I was lucky enough to represent Prep Redzone WI at the Elite QB Camp at UW- Oshkosh this past Sunday. An event put together and ran by QB Coach Benji Kamrath. These camps are quickly becoming some of my favorites to attend. Coach Kamrath does a great job of teaching, explaining the reason behind what the athletes are doing, and getting the kids a ton of reps during a two hour window. I highly recommend attending one of these events if you are a QB in WI. His next one is Sunday March 30 so make sure to check that out. As for the event on Sunday, it was another great example of the steep increase in QB talent compared to past years. Leading the way was a strong, dynamic group of 2026 QBs. They are going to be the focus of today's article. Let's talk about these Need-to-Know juniors.

It was great to see Bryce in person a couple months after first watching him at the UW- Eau Claire event. With basketball season wrapped up for him it is clear that the 2026 QB is putting in the work on his QB play. I'm so impressed watching the 6'6" 195 lbs junior throw. With his long frame and limbs you have to wonder if that will slow down the release, but with Bryce that is far from a concern. The '26 has a consistent, quick, compact throwing motion that can get the ball out in a fraction of a second. Matching the impressive release, Bryce's footwork also shined throughout the day. The junior was quick to get his feet set and throw and didn't have any issues overstriding when on the move or resetting after moving out of the pocket. Ott has a great frame, smooth and efficient mechanics, and an arm that can get the ball everywhere on the field with the velocity required. He is one of the top prospect in the best QB group I have seen.

The biggest winner of the day in my eyes was New Richmond's [player_tooltip player_id='1126287' first='Nick' last='Stellrecht']. Nick has a rare frame for the HS QB position. He already stands at 6'5" 230 lbs, and the kid is outstanding at using that size to create torque and velocity on his passes. The junior's right arm was the strongest of the day. It is impressive watching the entire field be open to the rising junior. He showed that he could flip his hips and fire the ball on a rope 10, 20, 30, 40+ yards downfield with accuracy. The big man also impressed with his ability to throw at different arm angles while on the move without having to sacrifice much, if any, arm strength on his passes. Most importantly, Nick was able to maintain really good control over his ball placement and accuracy while showing off the power. No doubt, Nick will be moving inside the Top 10 by the end of the summer and he should be on a every radar across the Midwest.

This was my first chance getting to watch the Oshkosh West QB throw in person and there is a lot to get excited about. Looking through my notes, I kept putting down how impressed I was by the mechanics of the 2026 QB. Everything worked off each other with fluidity and timing. The feet and hips were able to create enough torque so he could make every throw. His smooth but efficient throwing motion was super consistent from throw to throw. That type of consistency also led to Zander being very accurate throughout the day. Consistent mechanics= consistent accuracy and Crook embodied that with his performance in Oshkosh.

An athlete who we have covered for awhile but haven't gotten to see throw live until Sunday was [player_tooltip player_id='209472' first='Carmine' last='Moctezuma']. The junior signal caller was fun to watch. The 6'3" 175 lbs '26 was one of the most athletic kids in attendance. When we went to throws on the move or rolling out and resetting quickly before delivering the ball, Carmine stood out from the crowd. The junior has quick feet and did well getting himself set quickly with a strong base so that he could still deliver the ball in a timely manner. I also was impressed with the touch he displayed on his deep passes, dropping the ball over the shoulder of his target when the throw called for it. The athletic junior signal caller is a rising name to know in the Class of 2026.

Jake just hit our radar at this event, and hopefully he starts hitting other radars soon. The junior QB looks to be in line for the starting job at DC Everest this coming fall. In a backup role Jake delivered every single time he was asked, finishing 2024 going 14/15, 227 yards, and 3 TDs. The undersized QB has the arm to do a lot of damage in a starting role. He is a twitchy short area athlete who can move and reset quickly. His release is quick and the ball comes out of a high release point, cutting down on any risk of batted passes. The '26 QB didn't have any struggle getting behind the ball and driving it deep downfield either. Most importantly, he understood where to put the ball and could place it there rep to rep. Jake is an accurate QB that is going to surprise a lot of people this fall. Keep an eye out for this kid.

Another new athlete to my radar from the event is Sun Prairie West QB1 Peyton Vander Steeg. The 5'9" 180 lbs QB came out ready to throw. The junior is very undersized for the position, but didn't hesitate to go throw for throw with the other QBs all day long. Peyton was quick with all his movements, including rolling out and throwing or rolling out and quickly resetting before getting the throw off. The '26 QB was able to keep the ball on a flat line in the short-intermediate levels too. I'm excited to see him continue to learn and get better and carry it over to this fall.

Our final standout 2026 QB of the day is Port Washington's dual threat athlete Cal Loose. The dual threat, and dual sport standout had a good day overall. Any time the QBs were asked to move around the pocket or escape the pocket it seemed like Cal was right at home. He was able to comfortably get the ball out on the move with accuracy and quickness. I was impressed by the velocity that Cal was able to put on the ball throughout the day too. That stemmed from having that ability to flip his hips and create that torque with his frame. The lefty QB is a name to watch as a QB, ATH, and maybe even in other sports as the junior is coming off 15.5 PPG this past basketball season.
