I had an opportunity to check out the DIME U 7v7 travel team in action at the King of the North 7v7 tournament a little over a week ago. Dime U, based out of Maryland, had an impressive run, going undefeated on the first day with a perfect 3-0 record (28-6, 14-10, and 18-8 scores in their wins). Dime U earned a first-round bye in bracket play, where they continued their momentum with two more victories (17-8 and 22-16) before falling just short in the Final 8, losing 17-15 in a tightly contested game.

The game I could watch firsthand occurred during their dominant first day, where DIME U put together a solid performance in their 18-8 victory over N4E Red. Here's a breakdown of the standouts from that matchup.

Top Performers

1. Jacob Zirin (Blair, QB, 6'2”, 185 lbs, 2026)

Jacob Zirin's most impactful performance of the game showed his efficiency as a quarterback. He was able to move the ball downfield and contribute to scoring opportunities. Zirin connected with London Gray on a short five-yard pass in the flat and hit [player_tooltip player_id='1628790' first='Alijah' last='Bah'] on a short crossing pattern, showing his accuracy on short routes. Zirin's biggest play came when he threw a touchdown pass to Bah, capitalizing on a short passing opportunity for a score. Zirin's was composed and effective throughout the weekend.

2. [player_tooltip player_id='1707388' first='Hunter' last='Humphries'] (Wooton, QB, 6'1", 185 lbs, 2027)

[player_tooltip player_id='1707388' first='Hunter' last='Humphries'] also played a significant role in the game, securing two touchdown passes and displaying his ability to make big plays. He first found [player_tooltip player_id='379424' first='Elijah' last='Butler'] on a crossing pattern, which Butler turned into a 20-plus-yard touchdown. Later, Humphries threw a well-placed fade ball to [player_tooltip player_id='1313462' first='Tristan' last='Saunders'] for a 15-plus-yard touchdown, where Saunders outjumped the defender for the score. Humphries showcased his deep ball accuracy and ability to put the touch on his throws.

3. [player_tooltip player_id='379424' first='Elijah' last='Butler'] (Bowie, Athlete, 6'2", 180 lbs, 2026)

[player_tooltip player_id='379424' first='Elijah' last='Butler'] proved his value on both sides of the ball, making plays on offense and defense. Offensively, he caught a touchdown pass from Humphries on a crossing route, turning it into a 20+ yard score. Defensively, he intercepted a pass in the end zone, preventing a crucial scoring opportunity for N4E Red. Butler's impacted the game in multiple ways.

4. Cory Martin (Frederick, Defensive Back, 6'3", 175 lbs, 2026)

Cory Martin played key defensively, showcasing great awareness and ball skills. He was involved in a crucial interception near the goal line, where Bryan Ngouzo tipped a pass, and Martin came down with the pick. Martin's ability to capitalize on the tip drill and secure the turnover was a significant play for his team.

5. Bryan Ngouzo (Wooton, Defensive Back, 6'2", 185 lbs, 2026)

Bryan Ngouzo made a key defensive play that directly led to an interception. Near the goal line, he tipped a pass, allowing Cory Martin to come down with the ball.

6. [player_tooltip player_id='1313462' first='Tristan' last='Saunders'] (Flowers, Wide Receiver, 6'0", 195 lbs, 2026)

[player_tooltip player_id='1313462' first='Tristan' last='Saunders'] made the most of his opportunity in the passing game, securing a touchdown reception. He outjumped a defender on a fade route to haul in a 15+ yard touchdown from [player_tooltip player_id='1707388' first='Hunter' last='Humphries']. His strong hands and athleticism were why he could come down with the football even though somebody contested the catch.

7. London Gray (Blake, Defensive Back, 5'8", 145 lbs, 2026)

London Gray contributed on both sides of the ball, making an impact with a pass breakup on a two-point conversion attempt and catching a short pass from Zirin in the flat. His defensive play prevented a critical conversion.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Jacob Zirin stood out as the best performer, having the most impactful plays, including a passing touchdown. [player_tooltip player_id='1707388' first='Hunter' last='Humphries'] was a close second, as he threw two touchdown passes. [player_tooltip player_id='379424' first='Elijah' last='Butler'] excelled on offense and defense, making him one of the most versatile contributors. Cory Martin and Bryan Ngouzo played pivotal roles on defense, while [player_tooltip player_id='1313462' first='Tristan' last='Saunders'] and London Gray also made solid contributions for Dime U during the game.
