[player_tooltip player_id='1841752' first='Jase' last='Jaspers'] made strides in 2024 as he built off a promising sophomore campaign to solidify his spot as the Mustangs' No. 1 WR going forward. Jaspers finished last season with 59 receptions for 867 yards and 8 touchdowns. The passing offense was dynamic for Mount Vernon as they utilized 4-WR sets often last season, and Jaspers would fit as an inside-slot WR for that set. Jaspers was able to stretch the field both ways with his sharp route running, being able to sneak behind the secondary to get open, and he showed great ball-skills on contested catches. Jaspers is also coming off a recent state championship victory in wrestling, further showcasing his athleticism. Jaspers could very much top 1000 yards in 2025 to cap off an impressive run with Mount Vernon.

[player_tooltip player_id='1649206' first='Chase' last='Flaherty'] played a significant part in Humboldt's run to the Class 3A state title game last season. He emerged out of nowhere in 2024 to lead the team with 808 yards on 56 catches and 9 touchdowns. Flaherty is one of the most fluid route-runners I've watched last season playing in the slot. He shows great footwork and control on his acceleration, and once the ball is in his hands, he turns on the jets, and it is nearly impossible to catch up with him. As the offense for Humboldt will adjust in 2025 after several key starters graduated last year, Flaherty will look to right the ship and keep the offense flowing smoothly in 2025.

A change in QBs midway through the 2024 season didn't slow [player_tooltip player_id='1240413' first='Evan' last='Allie'] down as he enjoyed a breakout campaign. Allie finished with 786 yards on just 36 catches and 8 touchdowns. He added 123 rushing yards and a rushing touchdowns on just 5 carries. Allie boasts game-wrecking speed, having clocked at a stunning 4.37 40 yard time as a junior as well as an impressive 36" vertical. Allie's athleticism was on full display last season, as he showed fluid agility, hip mobility, and acceleration control on his routes, and he is going to burn the defense for a big gain every time he gets a crease of open field. Allie is another stud that should make a big impact in this class coming out of Algona.

With his teammate [player_tooltip player_id='252312' first='Brady' last='Kurt'] getting most of the attention on the offense, Ezekiel Symonds emerged last season as a legitimate deep-threat for the Mustangs' offense. Symonds finished with 590 yards on just 27 catches and 10 touchdowns. Symonds was sent often on go-routes last season down the sideline, and he used his speed and length to gain separation and bring in the ball nearly every time. Symonds has a long wingspan, and he uses that well to reach for passes that sometimes aim outside his window, and he's able to reel in difficult passes with ease. With Kurt graduating, Symonds will now take over as the No. 1 WR for the Mustangs, and I think that he will handle that transition just fine.

Nevada's passing game had peaks and valleys during the 2024 season, but through that emerged a solid threat who became a priority target for the Cubs, Gavin Egeland. Egeland finished with 524 yards on 32 catches and 7 touchdowns. Egeland worked best with the horizontal routes, making plays closer to the line, and then using his agility and vision to find lanes to gain yards after the catch. Egeland's returning presence in 2025 will be necessary toward Nevada's potential transition on offense with the departure of several key starters who will graduate this year.

Another WR that emerged in Mount Vernon's budding passing game last season was [player_tooltip player_id='1841812' first='Michael' last='Ryan']. Ryan finished with 524 yards on 30 catches and 7 touchdowns in 2024. Ryan was one of the most dynamic players on the Mustangs in 2024, showcasing impressive talent on both sides of the ball. Ryan made some ridiculous catches last season as he's been able to stretch and turn his body in different directions to make a play on the ball. Mount Vernon lined up Ryan in a variety of spots within the offense, and he seemed to make a difference in each role he was assigned to. Playing alongside Jaspers, the two could potentially form one of the best WR tandems in Iowa in 2025.

Mount Vernon isn't the only team in Class 3A with a prolific tandem of returning WRs. [player_tooltip player_id='1700997' first='Valley' last='Davis'] emerged within Humboldt's offense last season to pair alongside [player_tooltip player_id='1649206' first='Chase' last='Flaherty'] as a strong duo. Davis finished with 496 yards on 31 catches and 7 touchdowns. Playing as an outside WR, Davis boasts an excellent combination of length, footwork, and awareness to see his QB and adjust his routes to get open when the QB is forced to scramble. Davis is a solid No. 2 WR who should see his production grow in 2025, even with the change at QB this offseason.
