2028 Prospect Watch: Piedmont Area QBs

We're well into the offseason, and we're keeping things going ahead of spring workouts and summer practices. In a new series that will run concurrently with some of our other cornerstone content, like my <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/03/community-film-room-episode-4-2/">community film room series</a> or Matt Morrow's <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/03/deep-dive-union-county-wide-receivers/">county-by-county Deep Dives</a>, we're looking at what some of our 2028 players (both ranked and unranked) did as freshmen. I started with the <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/03/2028-prospect-watch-charlotte-area-qbs/">Charlotte area quarterbacks</a>. Here, I'm expanding to prospects from other parts of the Piedmont area, with guys from Concord to Greensboro and everywhere in between.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2028 QB Prospect Breakdown</h2>    An immediate impact starter as a freshman, Craft doesn't look like a youngster, in size or ability. Take one look at his freshman highlights and you'll know his unbelievable ability. His ability to layer the ball, even under pressure and off-platform, is incredible and allows him to push the ball down the field regardless of the coverage or blitz package. He's one we're tracking as a potential top player in the class.     Lopez earned a few starts as a freshman for Cannon and really played well, throwing for nearly 1,500 yards on the year. He throws an excellent deep ball and repeatedly shows a fearlessness against pressure on film. You could tell he got more comfortable as a processor as the year went on and with more experience, he's a guy who could rise through the ranks and become a quality college prospect.     The only thing preventing Nance from a future in college football is a potential future in college basketball as he's a standout on the hardwood as well. He burst onto the varsity scene with a 450-yard, 5-touchdown debut and continued to deal throughout the season. When pressed he can force the issue some, evidenced by a few multi-interception games, but I'm okay with that from young quarterbacks. He's fearless and a gamer, two traits that should help him continue to develop in the future.     Donnelly is at his best when he's on the move. He has the ability to run, but he's a pass-first dual-threat. Mooresville did an excellent job getting him outside the pocket as a freshman, and he was accurate on the run. I'm also impressed with his ability to carry out play-action fakes and make critical decisions in the RPO game. He's such a smart player,     The tools are there for Williamson to be a top quarterback. His footwork is solid, and though he completed around 50% of his passes as a freshman, he flashed pinpoint accuracy that will become more consistent with more repetitions. He's a guy we're watching on a team that is looking to return to the success it had in the mid-2010s. Williamson could be the guy to lead the resurgence.     Balcerzak had his share of freshman moments last season, but the positive far outweighed the negative. A dual-threat guy, he can pick up yardage on the ground in a hurry. He displays great upside with his accuracy and arm strength and has a feel for avoiding the rush.     Livingston shows an impressive ability to reset his feet and throw on the run and it makes him almost better on the move than stationary. Like a lot of the guys on this list, the keys are consistency and development, as his highlight tape is impressive, and there's room to grow as a down-to-down quarterback. He's on the watch list for now, but it's unlikely he'll stay there for long.
