Prep Redzone Louisiana's winter rankings process continued Thursday with its release of the first 2028 class rankings.

In addition to the 50-player list, we will take a closer look at the top 20 in more detail, as well as additional features on young cohort making their first impressions on the recruiting trail.

Here's a look at the prospects ranked in the top 10 in the initial list.

No. 10 [player_tooltip player_id='1080644' first='Solar' last='Tynes Jr.'] — 6-1, 240 DL — Hammond

Tynes is a big, disruptive playmaker on the defensive front, already earning playing time as a freshman and — after bulking up 30 pounds last year heading into high school — showing positional versatility to work on the interior or rushing off the edge. The Tornados' promising trench prospect has a long frame he uses well to extend, rip aside blockers and wrap up ball-carriers.

No. 9 [player_tooltip player_id='409932' first='Hayden' last='Monroe'] — 6-3, 190 WR/TE — Carencro

The Bears' long, athletic pass-catcher has been among the most prominent young prospects early on in Louisiana's 2028 class on both the football field and the basketball court. Monroe is among the state's next multiport standouts in the hybrid receiver/tight end mold headlined of late by high-level Division-I prospects such as Trey'Dez Green and [player_tooltip player_id='1257121' first='Ahmad' last='Hudson']. Monroe is anticipated to also potentially see time as an edge rusher for Carencro, though thus far he's been at his best on offense.

No. 8 [player_tooltip player_id='1372221' first='Cayden' last='Lancelin'] — 6-0, 170 DB/WR — Westgate

Another talented multisport standout from the Lafayette area, Lancelin is among his Tigers' top young basketball and football prospects with two-way potential on the field as a wide receiver and safety. He was an instinctive ball-hawking safety on the 7-on-7 circuit last winter and spring as he prepared for high school and showed flashes this fall as a speedy vertical threat on offense.

No. 7 [player_tooltip player_id='1291430' first='Ja'Juan' last='Jackson'] — 6-1, 205 QB — St. James

One of a pair of promising young quarterbacks near the top of the initial 2028 rankings, Jackson took over as the starter of the title-minded Wildcats and helped lead the team to a strong season overall and state runner-up finish. He hit the Prep Redzone Louisiana radar as a middler-school standout with a tall, strong build, a strong arm and the athleticism to make plays with his legs. And, competing at a high level this fall, Jackson showed solid decision-making and all-around efficiency with 2,033 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 159-for-229 passing (69.4%).

No. 6 [player_tooltip player_id='1375178' first='Noble' last='Williams'] — 5-11, 175 RB — Alexandria

The Trojans' freshman running back didn't see a ton of varsity action this fall behind a duo of college-bound seniors to carry the load for undefeated district champions and eventual Division-I Select state runners-up. But the Williams popped explosive runs on some of those opportunities on which he showed good vision through traffic and a nice combination of power through contact and speed to get up field in a hurry.

No. 5 [player_tooltip player_id='1372189' first='Kenric' last='Johnson Jr.'] — 5-9, 150 ATH — Riverside Academy

Easily the most versatile player on the list, "Boogie" has been a difference-maker on title-hopeful Rebels varsity squads each of the past two seasons now. The quick, explosive athlete who catches everything thrown his direction, plays with great instincts and carries himself with high levels of confidence and competitiveness that stand out even among much older opponents and on big stages deep in the postseason or in national-level 7-on-7 settings loaded with Division-I prospects.

No. 4 [player_tooltip player_id='1372164' first='Carson' last='Gurzi'] — 6-1, 200 QB — Carencro

The quick emergence of the Golden Bears' young quarterback freed up more flexibility for junior star [player_tooltip player_id='710967' first='Chantz' last='Babineaux'] to be moved around the offense. Gurzi has a strong arm to zip passes to every level of the field with a quick flip of the wrist and to deliver accurate throws on the move and off his back foot. He has also developed into a good stature up past 6-feet with a strong build and showed notable physical and mental toughness this fall in his ability to take shots from defenders and bounce right back.

No. 3 [player_tooltip player_id='1372219' first='Armani' last='Davis'] — 6-3, 190 WR — St. Martinville

The first of back-to-back two-way standouts as pass-catchers and defensive backs already with potential college size. Davis particularly hit the radar at receiver with a string of workouts and 7-on-7 events last winter in which he stockpiled acrobatic, highlight-reel receptions that showcased his elite catch radius. But the strong, speedy athlete earned a starting role this fall at safety as well.

No. 2 [player_tooltip player_id='1372155' first='Calvin' last='Ursin'] — 6-2, 190 WR/DB — Live Oak

"Deuce" was the first prospect in Louisiana's 2028 class to start taking off last summer with offers from Florida State, Tulane and Southern. Ursin started both ways this fall for his Class 5A Eagles as a long, thickly built athlete with great instincts and ball skills to be a playmaker at both receiver and safety as just a freshman in Louisiana's highest classification level. He's also firmly on the radars of LSU, Ole Miss and several other programs.

No. 1 [player_tooltip player_id='1372214' first='Chance' last='Archangel'] — 6-3, 225 EDGE/DL — Westgate

The big trench athlete not only earned notable playing time as a freshman, but added an eye-catching highlight reel and all-district second-team honors in an always-tough district to his early résumé. Archangel already has a long frame, good overall size for a high school prospect — even this early in his development — and an explosive burst off the edge. He finished the season with 33 tackles, including 14 for loss and seven sacks, plus three fumble recoveries. Texas A&M recently kicked off his recruiting process with his first offer.
