Returning to our watchlist of the upcoming senior QB class of 2025, we turn our attention to Class 3A, where we have an interesting group of names that have emerged as standouts or potential breakouts for the following season. A lot of the names on this list are names that made a significant impact to their team even if not backed up with a padded stat-line, but they have the potential to make a big impact as the signal-caller for their offense going forward. We take a look at 5 of the top upcoming senior QB names to watch in Class 3A Iowa for the 2025 season!

Much of the focus last season was on Mount Vernon's dominant defense, but [player_tooltip player_id='1581287' first='Kellen' last='Haverback'] broke through in 2024 as a confident and largely productive leader for the Mustangs' offense. Haverback finished with 2285 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 picks, and he added 10 rushing touchdowns. Haverback is a QB that stands tall in the pocket and is impressively precise with his timing on his throws, being able to fit the ball exactly to the point of where the receiver breaks his route. Haverback has an excellent arm and is sneakily athletic, being able to scramble and serve as a scoring threat both on the air and the ground. Haverback will look to cap off his time with Mount Vernon by leading the team to the state championship after reaching the semifinals last year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1242847' first='Gabe' last='Arkfeld'] succeeded his older brother Will as the starter for the Cyclones this season, and he did a good job filling his shoes and establishing himself as a legitimate signal-caller for the team. Arkfeld finished with 1787 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 6 picks. He also ran for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns. Arkfeld has a great arm, showing excellent velocity and depth on his horizontal throws. Arfeld shows solid footwork, great timing on his quick throws, and is able to improvise when the pocket collapses while keeping his eyes down the field to find a receiver. A new group of receivers in 2025 will certainly give a challenge for Arkfeld, but the ceiling is very high for Arkfeld's senior campaign if he can develop a strong rapport quickly.

Even for a team that ran for over 4000 yards and 50 touchdowns on the ground last season, [player_tooltip player_id='1692983' first='Isaiah' last='Jervik'] still was able to find opportunities to showcase his solid abilities as a pocket passer. Jervik finished the season with 537 passing yards, 7 touchdowns, and 4 picks. He ran for 770 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. Jervik is athletic and dangerous as an open-field runner, but he's just as capable in airing out the ball and stretching the field, using his athleticism to scramble out and throw well on the run. Hopefully, Jervik will get more opportunities during his senior year to throw the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1850755' first='Hudson' last='Krukow'] is a promising QB under center for Central DeWitt, and while he wasn't able to get the ball into the endzone much in 2024, he did do a great job in progressing his team down the field. Krukow finished with 1483 passing yards, 7 touchdowns, and 5 picks. Krukow shows restraint on his throws, which resulted in fewer turnovers, but he looked very sharp when airing the ball down the sideline. I was impressed with his deep throw accuracy and I believe that he should try to take more chances down the field in 2025. If Krukow can stretch the field more and take more risks, he could enjoy a strong senior season that could help the Sabers turn around.

While his numbers weren't big, [player_tooltip player_id='1644037' first='Brennen' last='Merkle'] guided the Stormin Pointers to a better record in 2024 thanks to his solid leadership. Merkle finished with 713 passing yards, 6 touchdowns, and 2 picks in his first year as a starter. Merkle wasn't just a game manager, as there were plenty of moments were Merkle showed playmaking ability as an improviser, making accurate throws from awkward positions and showing great accuracy on the run. Merkle is another potentially excitable QB that could surge in 2025 with an increase in reps.
