The 2027 class in Texas is a talented one. This group is loaded with high-level prospects at just about every position. Today, I'm looking at which 2027s could breakout this calendar year. Every prospect listed was a varsity contributor as a sophomore and should see their role increase as juniors. Each one of these guys flashed potential on tape and could see their recruiting stock rise quickly this offseason.

LB: [player_tooltip player_id='946341' first='Hova' last='Willford'], 5'11" 210, Allen

This inside linebacker plays downhill with his pads square to the line of scrimmage. He's slippery at the point of attack as a blitzer, he can dip & rip around pass protectors, and has natural read and react skills. He can quickly disengage second-level blocks and is a major mismatch taking on backs in pass protection.

DL: [player_tooltip player_id='1727053' first='Darrien' last='Neal'], 6'3" 270, Denton Guyer

Neal does a good job of not getting too wide on called twists, he's got quick hands and is rather slippery at the point of attack. He's flexible for a big man, has a quick first step, and can sit back & hold his own against man blocks. The tape is limited, so I expect to see a big jump in production as a junior.

CB: [player_tooltip player_id='946490' first='Jacob' last='Lee'], 5'10" 160, Cypress Ranch

A corner with refined technique, he's smooth transitioning out of his backpedal and does a good job of fighting to stay on top of targets in zone coverage. He's got the speed & instincts to overlap in zone coverage, he plays with disciplined eyes in off-man and does a good job shooting his hand & not swatting at the football in the air.

QB: Cayson Maupin, 6" 180, Sunnyvale

This young man is a fun watch on tape as he dazzles with off-platform throws. He's highly productive and rarely turns the football over, he can improvise against the rush and has the arm talent to make just about every throw. He's got easy touch, he can add zip for tight-window throws and just oozes confidence on the field.

DL: [player_tooltip player_id='1749485' first='Isaac' last='Coughran'], 6'3" 265, Katy

This kid never gives up on a play, he'll scratch and claw his way to the quarterback as a pass rusher and is a heat-seeking missile when he gets his eyes on the quarterback. He's got the lower-body strength to push the pocket and can swiftly retrace in his rush lane.
