His ability to read, react and attack downhill is impressive. Then, when he meets the ball carriers near the line of scrimmage, he tackles them well. He is also a good tackler in the open field. Then he does an excellent job running sideline-to-sideline to make plays. As a defensive lineman, he is excellent at firing off the ball and attacking offensive lineman. It looks like he is firing out of a cannon. His ability to penetrate and cause problems for the offense is impressive. As an offensive lineman, he shows good skills in pulling and blocking. The way he fires off the ball and blocks defenders is special. He locks onto defenders and power drives them off the ball. He also shows good athleticism as he moves well to block defenders. His stance and start off the ball are good but could use some improvement. With time, this should improve, enabling him to do better as an offensive lineman. When he gets into the open field, he just explodes past defenders and races to the end zone. He also shows good ability as a runner by running hard. He is hard to bring down and has a physical running style. Crothers also has excellent skills as a pass catcher and makes defenders miss after he catches the ball. He has a great 1st step, and he can get off the ball quickly. Several times in the film he pushes the offensive lineman back into the backfield. He also shows good strength as he makes plays constantly against the offense. He has a motor that never stops as he chases plays all over the field.
