Final 2025 Rankings: Defensive Line

As we approach the final weeks of 2024, another week of high school football has come and gone in the state of Kentucky. With that being said, it is time to wrap up our coverage of this year's senior class with our final rankings update. While there were a ton of talented players in the class of 2025, we have narrowed it down to the top 250 players in the class. With that being said, I will be taking the next week or so to break down these final rankings by position. After already covering the offensive side of the ball, I will now turn my attention to the defensive side of the ball, starting with our top defensive linemen in the class of 2025 in the state of Kentucky.    [player_tooltip player_id='1149630' first='Javeon' last='Campbell'] earned himself the top overall ranking in the state of Kentucky in his class following another very impressive season. Campbell lines up at defensive end where he is a dominant pass rusher. He is explosive out of his stance and has shown the ability to use his strength to driver straight through opposing offensive linemen and his speed to blow right by them on his way to the quarterback. Javeon finished his senior year with 16 sacks in 11 games. He also asserted his dominance against the run, using his high motor to get to the ball carrier in a hurry to make the tackle. Campbell finished the year with 63 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown). Javeon signed with Kentucky where I can see him being a star at the next level.     [player_tooltip player_id='373821' first='Austin' last='Alexander'] is another high-caliber defensive end who continued to stand out this season. He is a very dangerous pass rusher off the edge, using his speed and pass rush moves to beat opposing offensive tackles off the edge with ease. Alexander finished the season with 13 sacks in 13 games. He also showed the ability to make plays against the run, finishing the year with 52 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown). Austin also played a huge role on offense at tight end this season, catching 45 passes for 706 yards and 13 touchdowns. Alexander is committed to North Carolina where I can see him being a very successful player at the next level.     [player_tooltip player_id='1149579' first='Travis' last='Moten'] is a player who has consistently climbed up our rankings over the past couple seasons. He had another outstanding season at defensive end as a senior. Moten is a dominant force off the edge as a pass rusher, showing the combination of speed, strength, and pass rush moves to make him very difficult for opposing offensive tackles to block. As a senior, he led the entire state in sacks with 19.5 in 12 games. He also showed the ability to stop the run, showing the ability to read the play then shed blocks quickly and use his speed to get to the ball carrier in a hurry to make the tackle before they can get going. Moten led his team with 92 tackles and 30 tackles for loss. Travis signed with Michigan where I can see him developing into a very productive defensive end at the next level.     [player_tooltip player_id='735671' first='Dillon' last='Smith'] is a player who has been high on our radar for a while now and continued to impress as a senior. Smith lines up at defensive end where he is very reliable against the run. He does a great job of reading the play then shedding blocks quickly and using his speed to get to the ball carrier to make the tackle in the open field. Dillon finished his senior year with 59 tackles and 20.5 tackles for loss in 15 games. He also showed the ability to put pressure on the quarterback, finishing the season with 9.5 sacks. Smith also caught one touchdown pass on offense. Dillon signed with Louisville where I can see him developing into a key role on defense.     To wrap up our top five defensive linemen in the class of 2025 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='727243' first='Mattox' last='Kelly']. Mattox lines up at defensive end where he is very impressive as a pass rusher. He explodes out of his stance and has shown the strength to bull rush straight through opposing offensive linemen on his way to the quarterback. Kelly finished the year with 8.5 sacks in 15 games. He also showed the ability to stop the run, finishing the season with 54 tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss. Mattox signed with Illinois State where I can see him having a productive career at the next level.
