On the pre-high school level, it's pretty rare to find true Tight Ends that can play. They're often bigger Wide Receivers that project to play Tight End in high school or big, athletic kids that don't realize it yet, but will eventually be moved to Offensive Tackle down the line. However, the five eighth-grade prospects below are true Tight Ends and should make a ton of noise as they progress in their high school career. Take a look

First up lets look at Dark Knights prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1417841' first='Landon' last='Weagley']. Weagley, like many on this list, is a defensive end as well as being a pass catcher. What is underrated about that is that Weagley, and all the others, have a different and innate understanding on how edge rushers operate, and how they think. The reason this can be important is that it means guys like Weagley will have an easier time blocking than others who don't have that experience playing the other side. Blocking isn't the only key to being a TE however, as you also need to be able to catch passes to be effective. Well he has no issue doing that, as standing at 6'2 Weagley towers over others his age, having no issue making catches downfield thanks to the size difference.

Next lets look at Wall Knights TE/EDGE [player_tooltip player_id='1558199' first='Donavon' last='Lynch']. Lynch shows an impressive catch radius, able to effortlessly high point the football and make contested jump ball catches look easy. No doubt his frame helps him out here as well, as standing at 6'2 Lynch towers over most his age. Lynch is also sneaky fast for a tight end, a skill that isnt required to be effective, but man it does help. Lynch is able to take a short 5-yard catch, and turn it into a 30-yard game, effectively being a 4th receiver on the field at all times. Pair al that with his willingness to be an inline and downfield blocker, and its easy to see Lynch being a star talent for years to come.

Next up is Toms River star pass catcher [player_tooltip player_id='1011788' first='Shai' last='Hester']. Hester is truly a wide receiver playing tight end, as while he is a capable blocker, he is at his best when running routes and catching passes. With excellent hands and the ability to create mismatches against defenders, Hester thrives in the open field, using his quickness and agility to make defenders miss. His speed also allows him to slip off the line and get wide open, making him a reliable target for any quarterback. Standing out in both short and deep passing situations, Hester's versatility and athleticism will make him a dynamic player for years to come.

While Hester is more of a WR/TE hybrid, [player_tooltip player_id='1544737' first='Justin' last='Zammit'] is a pure blood Tight End through and through. Zammit is a TE/EDGE player who uses his superior size to overpower his opponents. Zammit is a dominant inline blocker, while also being a contested catch machine. Effortlessly high pointing the football and reeling in passes. His physicality and strong hands make him a nightmare for defenders, and his ability to find open space allows him to win one-on-one battles consistently. Zammit's combination of strength and catching ability make him a true dual threat Tight End, being a great blocker and reliable red zone target

Wortley is a tricky case, as he is currently listed as an Athlete/Tight End because he currently plays Wide Receiver, but his 6'3 frame likely means he will transition to Tight End as he ages. Wortley is unsurprisingly a great pass catcher, and likely will be a dominant blocker due to the large size gap between him and everyone else. If he does make the switch, Wortley has the chance to become a dominant threat, able to take over games and be a key feature in any offense.
