One of the more underrated quarterback prospects from our senior class is this Mid-Tennessee product that had his best game of his high school career last Friday in his team's 45-14 win over Christian Brothers. Derrick was near flawless in the win as he threw only two incompletions on the night while throwing for 445 yards and putting the ball into the end zone six times. Derrick is a strong armed passer with good mechanics that shows on film college upside. Games like last Friday certainly help his cause of earning a scholarship and taking his game to the next level.

The Falcons have been one of the hottest teams coming out of the East TN region with Johnson being a major factor behind those efforts. This senior ball carrier had one of his best games of the season last week where he ran for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in the Falcons 42-35 win over Carter. Johnson has been on another level this year and played like someone in need of a scholarship. He has been a force behind a current 6-3 record for the Falcons and a sleeper candidate for Mr. Football.

The Dragons picked up their third win of the 2024 campaign last Friday with their defense holding Karns in-check as they defeated the Beavers, 17-15. A big force behind the victory last week was the play of Armes. The Dragons junior linebacker was everywhere in the Beavers backfield as he produced 10 tackles on the night while harassing the quarterback for three and a half sacks. Armes has been consistent all year long and it might land him on some All-State teams by season's end.

O-line of the Week

East Robertson Indians

- Going on the road and winning is always a good thing but beating a talented White House-Heritage team in commanding fashion while producing two 100 yard rushers is more impressive. The O-line deserves a lot of credit in last week's 56-21 win over the Patriots as they consistently pushed the Patriots D-line back and opened holes for their backs to be successful. They also did a good job of keeping their quarterback clean and allowing him to do his job. This O-line will be critical moving forward into the playoffs as the Indians look to defend their crown and repeat as Class 2A state champs.

Team of the Week

Alcoa Tornadoes

- It was a tough call for team of the week but I had to roll with the Tornadoes. Last Friday in Week Ten, Alcoa went down the road to knock off their rival and previously undefeated Maryville, 24-17 in what was an impressive win for the Tornadoes, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='783053' first='Eli' last='Graf'] and his offense did their thing and was impressive but keeping a strong Rebels offense in-check, was most impressive on my end. That side of the ball playing like they are tells me the Tornadoes are primed for yet another title run that keeps the “Gold Ball” in Alcoa.

QB POTW: ‘27 [player_tooltip player_id='378901' first='Andre' last='Adams'] - Antioch

- Adams put together one of his better performances of the year last Friday where he produced over 500 yards of total offense while leading his team to victory. The Bears quarterback has put forth a solid sophomore campaign that has boosted his recruiting stock while pushing his team towards a playoff appearance.

RB POTW: ‘26 [player_tooltip player_id='1199149' first='Hicks' last='Hunter'] - Sycamore

- For the second time this season, Hunter earns top honors after a monster performance where the War Eagles junior ran for nearly 400 yards while producing four touchdowns. This junior season has been very productive for Hunter that may lead to some future college offers.

WR POTW: ‘26 [player_tooltip player_id='978257' first='Will' last='Beaty'] - York Institute

- This junior wideout is starting to form into a formidable target out wide with his best performance of the season coming last week in the Dragon's 60-0 win over Wartburg Central. Beaty is a big dude that sports outstanding college potential. He allowed his athleticism and size to take over last week as he scored three TD's while producing 257 yards receiving.

ATH POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1527109' first='William' last='Cheairs'] - ECS

- The Eagles senior two-way playmaker has been consistent all season long, which makes him a sleeper candidate to contend for Mr. Football. That case is made stronger with performances like last week where Cheairs was clearly the best player on the field, making big plays catching the ball while being a force over on defense.

DL/Edge POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1560804' first='Brandon' last='Gates'] - Fayette-Ware

- The first win of the year came in a big way for the Wildcats as they knocked off Mitchell, 12-6 with Gates and their defense being a big reason why. This senior edge defender could not be blocked as he produced 5.5 sacks on the night and played a big role in the Cats region upset win over the Tigers.

LB POTW: ‘27 [player_tooltip player_id='1556594' first='Lawrence' last='Britt'] - Lausanne

- This sophomore backer had his breakout game last week where Britt added eight tackles on the night but made two huge plays that proved to be difference makers in the win. The Lynx defender picked off a pass that stalled a drive but then returned a fumble back for a touchdown that created separation.

DB POTW: ‘26 Bryson Headrick - Sevier Co.

- Headrick was a key figure in the Smoky Bears win last week as he produced big on both sides of the ball. His work on defense might have been better where he picked on one pass but also played in the opponent's backfield, adding a sack to his stat sheet.
