One of those freshmen to make a big impact on the varsity field was WR [player_tooltip player_id='1627985' first='Malachi' last='Schoonover']. The '28 put up 29/579/5 on the way to a Second Team All Big 8 season. The most impressive part of Malachi's tape is the fine tuned, nuanced traits. Things like having a quick twitch, agile release off the line vs press and understanding how to attack the ball in the air while using his body to create space or box out a CB. Things that usually take experience to understand, but Malachi seems to have outstanding instincts for how to win battles out wide. The freshman also possesses impressive hands to make catches in traffic or while getting hit or while having to lay out for a ball beyond his catch radius. The '28 also has a very well developed level of body control to make the acrobatic sideline catches. You don't see many freshmen skill position players making this type of varsity impact. Check him out.

Yisrael is a '28 who played at the JV/C Team level and was able to stand out from the field of peers with his play. The young DL was a force in the trenches piling up 17 sacks. While watching through the tape you get that "unfair" feeling. Washington is quick off the line and is able to create instant power out of his stance. Power that gave him the ability to bull rush OL or rip through gaps. Yisrael plays with very heavy hands compared to his opponents. The tape shows him able to club aside OTs on the way to the QB. Washington has also quickly developed the ability to dip and bend while rushing the passer. The freshman is on a great path. I'm excited to see how his frame and game grows.

Another varsity impact freshman is RB [player_tooltip player_id='1289198' first='Marcus' last='Brezgel'] of Shawano. The 2028 RB was able to put up 300 yards rushing at a 4.4 average/carry clip. Even on the varsity field Brezgel's acceleration, burst, and short area agility jump off the tape. He is able to get to top speed so quickly and hit the hole at full speed. Marcus does a great job of being a decisive runner too. He doesn't dance around or sit in the backfield. He finds the gap and attacks. Even while receiving out in space the freshman catches the ball and gets upfield. The explosive athlete will be one to watch.

Jamarion is an intriguing prospect. His highlights show him playing both sides of the ball, but the best of it is when he is at DB. Jamarion is a ballhawk on defense. He does a great job of reading the QB, batting them into bad throws, and showing the closing speed to jump routes. Whether on offense or defense after an INT the freshman knows what to do when he has the ball in his hands. He has the speed to cover ground quickly and has the ability to shake tacklers one on one. The standout athlete is one I will be watching closely over the coming years.

Deandre is showing the early signs of being a dominant, elite IDL prospect. He is already an impressive 6'1" 290 lbs and the '28 is loaded with power. Deandre earned a spot on varsity and that is where he proved how dominant his strength is. Ehlen has heavy hands that deliver a devastating punch that swatted IOL to the side or at least created separation for him to use to get around the block. Ehlen is able to collapse the pocket from the interior and create disruption in the backfield even if he doesn't get to the ball. Big things are ahead for the force in the middle of the Brookfield East DL. You need this kid on your radars, today.

John was a high impact offensive and defensive player as a freshman on the Germantown JV/C team. He finished the year with 257 receiving yards, 2 TDs, and 70 tackles with 2 INTs on defense. The range that John has at safety jumps off the screen. He easily covers ground after quickly reading the play. Whether it be on the back half to grab an INT or flying downhill to make a tackle vs the run. John accelerates like he is shot out of a cannon. With the ball in his hands, John is a natural playmaker. He has the speed to get the edge and beat pursuit downfield. His vision to see the field, set up defenders, and find blocks is a natural strength too. Check out his highlights.
