Scouting Hits on 8 Alabama Prospects

Here, I dive into the tape and dish on 8 Alabama prospects who have turned my head this fall.    Super underrated senior sleeper who is more than good enough to play at the small-school level. Hovers around 5'11 185 with a wiry, athletic frame. He has room to add weight, but would probably play at a lighter weight his entire career. Hudson is a super twitchy playmaker, frequently jumping routes and proving light enough on his feet to settle down and shadow ball carriers in running lanes. He is a verified track athlete with some speed in the open field, as shown when he has room to run after an INT. He has plenty of range, which he uses to chase the football and play centerfield as a safety. Hudson is raw but is a twitchy athlete who has produced against the ball. He deserves some looks.     [player_tooltip player_id='1014928' first='Justin' last='Godwin'] is another sleeper, but just picked up an offer from West Georgia and is a candidate to break onto the trail as we get closer and closer to signing day. Godwin hovers around 6'0 185 with plenty of athletic indicators. He plays basketball and runs track, where he is a verified 11.40 100M runner and a prolific jumper. He projects as a DB, but takes plenty of direct snaps at QB and gets in the open field frequently. He is a long strider, gliding past defenders in the open field and quickly eating up grass. Projects as a corner, where his length and ability to turn and run should help him blanket receivers down the field. Godwin is certainly a D1-caliber player but has flown under the radar up to this point in his career.     Myles Taylor is a low-key senior with D1 film, but no D1 offers. Has good size at 6'0 175 and is a solid athlete. He is a smooth defender and plays with excellent patience. His back-pedal is smooth and he is light enough on his feet to shadow routes in front of him. He can flip his hips efficiently to turn and run to a spot. He is a patient pursuer of the football as well, taking brilliant angles and arriving with power upon contact. He strikes well for a thinner defender, hitting hard while maintaining good pad level and making sure he gets the ball carrier on the turf. He projects best to the safety spot, where he can click, close, and strike. He will only get better as he bulks up.     Carter Byrd is a big safety with several FCS offers under his belt. Hovers around 6'1 175, and looks like he could be even bigger. He is built well, but still lanky, so there is some physical upside. Byrd is an excellent tackler and a downhill thumper. He triggers downhill aggressively, but settles down to a set a firm base, mirroring the football and striking. He hits with fantastic pad level, attacking the trunk of ball carriers and upending them in the open field. He doesn't have elite range, but he is a smooth mover with a clean backpedal, allowing him to fluidly change direction and run to a spot. Byrd is a physical hitter with good size and will find the field early on special teams.     JorDon Perry is a fiery pass rusher with the ability to break the game. He might not stack up as well when it comes to size as other edge defenders in the state, but he compensates for it with his explosiveness and motor. His quickness off the snap allows him to beat blockers to a spot and bend around the edge. He isn't a one-trick pony, flashing the ability to slap and battle with his hands to keep his chest free against blockers. He can create subtle hesitation in blockers and bait them into reaching, which he takes advantage of. He closes speed in a hurry and immediately sends QBs into a scramble. Perry should generate college buzz thanks to his ability to shed blocks and get into the backfield.     [player_tooltip player_id='1530344' first='JiQuan' last='Rogers'] just picked up his first offer from North Alabama, and it surely won't be his last. He is long and lanky at 6'3 200 with room to add a lot of weight. He has the length to separate against blockers and the bend to get around the arc and begin the chase after the QB. He will add more explosiveness as he grows and should be able to turn speed to power. He is patient against the run, settling down on the edge and using his tackling radius to engulf ball carriers. He will need to add more play strength, but he has plenty of time to do so. Rogers will continue generating D1 buzz throughout the rest of his HS career.     [player_tooltip player_id='676964' first='Jackson' last='Kilgore'] waited his turn at Auburn HS and has finally fully taken over as the starter as a senior. He has not looked back since and is one of the most efficient and productive QBs in the state. He has a stout, muscular frame. He is an explosive runner, taking advantage of yards available in the short areas. If needed, he could shrug off tacklers in the open field and drop the shoulder to add an extra yard or two. He has plenty of zip on the ball and has a quick release, allowing him to quickly attack tighter windows. He can mix up his arm angle and throw off-platform without sacrificing much arm strength. He plays with outstanding pocket awareness and field vision. There are throws littered all over the tape both over the middle of the field and outside the numbers, and he does it while completing 75% of his passes on the year so far. Kilgore is a good athlete and throws a tight football into all areas of the field. He is a massive sleeper and is a clear D1 prospect. I imagine some of those D1 opportunities will open up as we get closer to signing day.     The athletic indicators for Tabor Offord are extremely evident, playing both basketball and baseball for Saint James. Offord should be viewed as a deep threat, using his speed to get behind corners and track the ball over his shoulder. He is a smooth mover and has enough bounce and sink at the top of his routes to work back over the middle of the field. He has sticky mitts and plays bigger than 6'1 180, frequently getting his hands through traffic and plucking the ball out of the air. Offord picked up an offer from UAB over the summer. He is a clear D1 caliber athlete, regardless of whether he ends up playing football or not in college.
