Racine Case vs Oconomowoc: Game Recap

In this article:
The field of 224 playoff teams have been narrowed down to 112 after an exciting round of Level 1 playoff football. One of those 112 games on Friday night was a very highly-touted battle between #3 Racine Case and #6 Oconomowoc. Both teams entered the contest at 8-1, not something you usually see in a 3 vs 6 showdown. Both teams fielded exceptionally talented rosters filled with current commits, senior steals, and upcoming athletes to know for the coming years. So it was an obvious choice for Prep Redzone WI to be in attendance to take it all in. The best of it all is the game lived up to the statewide hype! Two teams throwing their best punches from start to finish. Let’s get into how this exciting game played out, plus make sure you click on the links throughout to go see the big plays from the night!
The first half of this battle was a defensive war. The two teams threw their best shots at each other and the defenses held their ground. We saw spark plays throughout the first quarter, but the defensive units would bend but not break. It was the top talent making the big plays too. DL Terrell McRae and Edge defender Thomas Lackey Thomas Lackey 6'3" | 200 lbs | LB Racine Case | 2025 State WI were monsters in the trenches for Racine Case, stuffing running lanes and getting pressure off the edge on the QB. For Oconomowoc it was DL Tony Melaas Tony Melaas 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Oconomowoc | 2025 State WI and LB Parker Schreindl among the rest of the front seven that were completely shutting down the Case running game and throwing the Racine Case passing game off their rhythm.
Each defense played so fast in the first half. They were so quick to read and react. It was clear that both teams were very well coached. They did their jobs, trusted their teammates to do their jobs, and played fast and loose. It was also so great watching these teams not let the moment get too big. Neither sideline got too high or too low throughout the game. They truly were so evenly matched. This game felt more like a Level 4 game than a Level 1 match. After the first 30 minutes the teams entered the halftime break tied at 0-0.
I don’t know what happened during those halftime breaks, but when the teams came back out a flip was switched. All of a sudden the two offenses seemed to know where to attack and found some weaknesses to exploit. It was the Raccoons of Oconomowoc who would put up points first after their defense forced and recovered a fumble. The Raccoons completed a 25 yard TD pass to finally break the scoring drought. They weren’t done scoring though. A short time later Oconomowoc went to the run game for more points. RB

To start the final quarter Racine Case carried that momentum onto special teams where they were able to get a hand on a Oconomowoc punt setting the Case offense up with a short field.

over the middle of the field. Farr broke a tackle and got into the endzone to tie the game at 14. Racine Case kept pouring it on from there. They were able to take their first lead on a field goal. After forcing another punt by the Raccoons, the Case Eagles stayed attacking through the air as

had other plans. Echols found a lane through the middle of the Raccoons defense and was off to the races for a 55+ yard rushing TD. Oconomowoc did a great job of battling until the end. Even down 31-14 they kept fighting and were able to put together a late scoring drive. QB

found WR Kashton Allen to cut the deficit to 21-31. The sudden comeback was stopped there, though, as the Casae Eagles recovered the kick and were able to kneel out the clock.
The 31-21 game lived up to the hype that the state and built up for this game. Two teams having historic seasons came in and proved their success was no fluke. They proved they were and are well coached, talented, and play as one unit. Congratulations to Oconomowoc on their great season. I can’t wait to see how this team develops heading into 2025. More congratulations to Racine Case as they continue their historic season! They will hit the road in Level 2 as they take on another Co- Classic 8 Conference Champion in Mukwonago. Good luck to the Eagles the rest of the season!
