[player_tooltip player_id='1844844' first='Tanner' last='Ray'] had an up-and-down sophomore campaign, but on Friday night against Perry, Ray brought everything together to delivering an absolutely brilliant end to a promising year. Ray finished 21 of 33 for 277 yards and 7 touchdowns while adding 3 carries for 84 yards and a rushing touchdown. Ray had 7 passing touchdowns through the first 8 games of the year, and he matched that total against Perry! Ray showed a great amount of confidence during the game, with nimble footwork moving out of the pocket, and making accurate throws down the field and to the sideline as he tore up Perry's secondary. Ray will hopefully translate the development at the end of this season into his junior year and begin to ascend as a top QB in the class.

#13-ranked Harlan Community finished their regular season with one of their most well-rounded victories of the year over Knoxville and [player_tooltip player_id='1242847' first='Gabe' last='Arkfeld'] had one of his best passing performances of his junior campaign. Arkfeld finished 12 of 20 for 308 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win. Arkfeld's deep throwing ability could not be contained on Friday night, hitting on several perfect passes where he fit the ball over the defender's head and in the lone spot where the receiver could jump and make the catch. Arkfeld has had his share of hit-or-miss plays, but as proven on Friday night, he's been really improving on his hits, and now he will be put to the test this week as Harlan goes on the road to take on Algona.

Brady Coffman has had a strong senior campaign for Grinnell, and he had a great performance on Friday night on the road against Fairfield to finish off his final season. Coffman finished 11 of 17 for 211 yards and 4 touchdowns passing. Coffman read his options well and was slinging some perfect deep balls throughout the night. Coffman was diversifying his targets throughout the night, and he ended up hitting completions to 7 different players on Friday night. Coffman should earn several looks and offers from college teams after finishing an excellent year where he threw for 15 TDs to just 3 INTs.

EJ Miller has been one of the most proficient passers from Class 3A this season, but at home against Center Point-Urbana, it was his work on the ground that stood out the most. Miller finished 17 of 22 for 218 yards, a touchdown, and a pick, while adding a stellar 169 rushing yards on 19 carries and 4 touchdowns. Miller's athleticism was on full display, as he simply ran all over the Stormin Pointers' defense, showing solid speed and sneaky agility scrambling, though he remained poised and accurate throwing out of the pocket. Miller finishes the season 2nd in passing yards (1907) among all passers in Class 3A while scoring 20 touchdowns, and he'll now look to take Independence deep into the playoffs as they take on Williamsburg this week.

Humboldt had statement wins over Algona and Clear Lake over the last 2 weeks, and Coen Matson's performance against Webster City this week solidified Humboldt as the #1 ranked team in Class 3A to end the regular season. Matson finished the night 12 of 17 for 189 yards, 4 touchdowns, and a pick, and he added 8 carries for 24 yards. Matson made great progressions through the night, and he slinged the ball with great release and impressive speed on his passes. Matson is a tough and natural leader that has been perfect for manning Humboldt's offense, and with Matson under center, Humboldt is on the fast track toward reaching the state championship this season.

Kellen Haverback has enjoyed an outstanding second half to his junior season after having found his rhythm, and Haverback showed that he's in full control of the offense after Mount Vernon's win over Keokuk. Haverback finished just 7 of 9 for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns passing during a blowout win. Haverback showed impressive release and velocity on his throws, works well out of the pocket, and he fit several difficult throws through the seams during the night. Haverback finishes the season with 20 touchdown passes and 7 rushing touchdowns, and he puts Mount Vernon in a favorable spot in the playoffs as they host Carroll this week for the first round.

Logan McDole has been an intriguing dual-threat QB that's done a great job leading Washington's offense, and that scrambling ability would lead the Demons to a strong win over Fort Madison on Friday to finish with the team's best record since 2020. McDole finished 7 of 12 for 140 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 picks, while adding an impressive 175 rushing yards on 22 carries. McDole was unstoppable on the ground, carrying the ball with the vision and elusiveness of a top RB. He was at times a hit-or-miss passer, but he delivered more on the former, showing that he can stretch the ball down the field very well. McDole's athleticism really shined during the regular season finale, and it could result in some favorable returns in the long run with his future.

Aalbers finished the game 8 of 15 for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 4 carries for 28 yards. Aalbers' best work during the night came out of the pocket, showing some impressive accuracy on throws that QBs won't usually make. Aalbers has led MOC-Floyd Valley to winning their last 3 games in a row, and they will now look to maintain that momentum heading into their first postseason game against Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
