Weekend Review: Pigskin & Cavalier Classic Top Performers

<p>I was out this past weekend at the 2nd annual Mid-Atlantic Pigskin Classic hosted by Salesianum HS (DE), along with the first ever Cavalier Kick-off Classic at Archbishop Spalding HS. Below are some of the top performers from those weekend of games that showed up, had big impacts for their teams and stood out to me.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">For the 2nd straight year at the Mid-Atlantic PigSkin Classic Brysheem was game MVP in Hodgon's matchup & victory against Howard Tech. I saw him last year go off in this game and he did it again this year as he had 1 receiving TD, an INT returned for a score, and a huge day in the KR/PR game.</p>   <p>Brysheem has great burst/speed and is a blur for defenders when he has the ball in his hands. Has wiggle and shift to avoid tackles and create his own space. He shows good instincts and ball skills which allows him to make those impact plays as a WR & DB. Byrsheem is a threat in all 3 phases in the game and I have gotten to see him show that skill set off live twice now. He currently holds one D2 offer from Millersville and if he keeps up this play he will have plenty of FCS/D2 schools come calling.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BrysheemDavis/status/1829607871556022384 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">While the game against Episcopal (PA) took two days to finish up due to weather, Jasir made huge impacts on both days and won MVP of the game. For the game he had 10 catches for 135yds and 160 total PR/KR yards. </p>   <p>Jaisr was electric on the field from the first play of the game, taking the opening kick-off 70+ yards getting Salesainum into scoring position. From the slot as a receiver he was hard to contain, being able to get over the top of the defense for big plays or taking short screens/hitches/slants and getting nice YAC. Jasir is such a playmaker with the ball in his hands because he is just so slippery. He is quick, shifty, smooth, fluid and able to create his own space. While only being 5'7" he is also well slapped together with good muscle/build so he does not go down easy and runs through arm tackles. A versatile ATH, Jasir is effective as a slot WR and a true weapon in the return game. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/SalesianumFB/status/1829964226485764514 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Yaheem was another standout player from Salaesianum's big win over Episcopal (PA). He was a shut down corner all game long as he snagged one impressive INT and had multiple tackles and PBUs. His interception came in a key moment when the game was still tight and Episcopal was driving deep into Sallies territory. Yaheem stayed in-phase with the WR all route long, read the route and under cut the pass to grab the pic. A very impressive play that showed Yaheem's skill set as a DB. </p>   <p>While only 5'10" Yaheem still possess great length, big hands, and really fluid hips. He can play in the slot as a nickel corner or out wide and is shut down at both. Good in 1v1 coverage, Yaheem is smooth in his transitions, quick to turn and run and has shown great improvement in his overall technique over the last year. With his versatility and skill set Yaheem is an offer kid in my mind and Power 4/FBS schools should be taking strong notice of him this fall.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/yahsmith8/status/1829588791088038340 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">My second straight week seeing McDonogh live and Brandon may have had the most impressive game I've seen so far this season. The Oregon commit had 3 receptions for 163yds and 3 TDs...that is also the exact stat line of the famous Randy Moss 1998 Thanksgiving game. </p>   <p>Brandon took 2 of those passes racing down the sideline, flying by defenders for touchdowns and his third score he made about 3 defenders miss using his agility and speed to cut across field and in for the score. It was an athletic display as Brandon showed off his speed and elusiveness all game long. It's no surprised why he is ranked as the #1 ATH in the 2025 PrepRedzoneMD Rankings.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/brandonfinneyjr/status/1830245291271819584 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">While the game against Hodgson didn't go Howard Tech's way, Nasir had a great showing on the field. The Junior D-lineman put in work on the day racking up 3 sacks and added another TFL as well. </p>   <p>Nasir is a defensive end with good HT at 6'3" and nice length in his wingspan. With a lean frame and good natural bend, he has a skill set to cause problems for Oline this fall. Nasir is able to fire out low off the snap and get under the tackle to bend the edge and get to the QB. He plays on his toes and should the ability to re-direct and chase down ball carries. With good size and athleticism, Nasir just needs to continue to fill out his frame with more bulk/muscle and he will be getting some attention from colleges next spring for sure.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/NaSirThompson54/status/1802804391117812137 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Ryken's game against Archbishop Curley this weekend was my first time getting to see Malachi live and he had an impressive day and was a key factor in their 41-7 victory over Curley.</p>   <p>Malachi was a work horse all game long for Ryken, breaking off positive runs all game long. He racked up 2 rushing scores as well as a receiving TD lining up in the slot. Malachi showed good vision and elusiveness as RB. He was able to hit the hole, or cut back to find the right lane. Showing quick choppy feet and shifty hips, he has the ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces and make something out of nothing.
