Welcome back to the Weekly Rapid-Fire Rundown. Week 2 was top-heavy with a few sensational matchups, but it also had a lot of blowouts. In this week's edition, I'll be commenting on several of the biggest games this week.

Big North

Kingsley (1-1) Defeated Gaylord (0-2), 16-0

Gaylord has only given up 22 points this season, but they have also yet to score a single point.

Capital Area

Dewitt (2-0) defeated Mason (1-1), 55-21

I'm honestly not too shocked. DeWitt returns a ton of talent, and they legitimately have one of the best offenses in the state. Mason, on the other hand, has a ton of new starters.

Hudsonville (1-1) defeated East Lansing (1-1) 14-12

Hudsonville (OK-Red) is a very talented team. Their LB core is especially strong. Though, I am surprised that they were able to limit East Lansing's rushing attack. As for East Lansing, you can't be upset with the defense only giving up two touchdowns. For the offense, I'd guess that they were forced to be very one-dimensional, which is usually a death sentence.

Lansing Everett (2-0) defeated UofD Jesuit (0-2), 23-7

Really, really bad loss for UofD and a very good victory for Everett.

Okemos 38 Cilo 0

Okemos just broke a 42-game losing streak! Good momentum for this program.

Fenton 21 Haslett 14

A very good win for Fenton. As for Haslett, they fall to 0-2. I was honestly expecting more from this offense.

Catholic League

Detroit Catholic Central (2-0) defeated Toledo (OH) Central Catholic, 21-7

A lot of people should be talking about this win. Central Catholic is a phenomenal program in Ohio, and they defeated Catholic Central 42-21. Not only that- Central Catholic went 16-0 and won the OHSAA State Championship. Wow. What a win for DCC!

De La Salle (2-0) defeated Detroit MLK (1-1), 35-13

This game went about as expected. De La Salle was likely too disciplined for King. I think King played well in their Week 1 victory against Cleveland Heights, but they had a lot of mistakes to clean up, much less than De La Salle.

ND Prep (2-0) defeated Lumen Christi (1-1), 28-24

Notre Dame Prep is a scary team this season. Especially that defense... I know they have some talent. As for Lumen, I wouldn't be too worried. Still an extremely talented team and still the heavy favorites to win the D7 title.

Detroit Public

Cass Tech (1-1) defeated Canton (OH) McKinley 20-3

I know Cass Tech was hype about this big win. A big game for some of their stars and hopefully a great opportunity to build some momentum.

Flint Hamady (2-0) defeated Detroit Mumford (0-2) 60-0

Let's be real, I'm only talking about this one because of Connor Stallions. In terms of the headlines, I admit, it's entertaining. For the sake of the Mumford players and surrounding community, I can only hope that Connor has a positive impact if he is indeed the acting head coach moving forward.

Downriver

Allen Park (2-0) defeated Southgate Anderson (1-1), 20-19

This one may have decided the downriver league! Allen Park may be 7-0 when they host Carlson during week 8.

Interstate Eight

Parma Jackson (2-0) defeated Traverse City Central (1-1), 30-20

Parma Jackson looks like they could make a deep playoff run this season. As a matter of fact, their schedule is quite weak, so they could head into the playoffs undefeated. As for TCC, they have a couple of very difficult games ahead. There's a chance this team doesn't make the postseason.

KLAA

East

Livonia Franklin (1-1) defeated Dearborn Fordson (0-2), 28-17

I don't know a whole lot about either program. What I do know is that both programs are usually strong playoff teams. On paper, Franklin is favored against Dearborn next week. Fordson faces Wayne Memorial, which should serve as a great opportunity to get win #1.

Westland Glenn (1-1) defeated Dearborn (0-2), 21-17

Glenn has steadily improved over the past couple years. Can they win a big one against Livonia Stevenson next week?

West

Brighton (1-1) defeated Plymouth Salem (1-1), 42-29

A shootout. I'm especially interested to see how Salem finishes the season. There's a good chance that I catch Brighton @ Northville next week!

Lakes Valley

Lapeer (2-0) defeated Lakeland (1-1), 49-28

Defense continues to be Lakeland's kryptonite. Offense continues to be Lapeer's strength. I think these are two very strong programs, and I'm very interested to see their record come mid-season.

South Lyon (2-0) defeated Waterford Mott (0-2) 16-14

I don't know if this outcome says more about South Lyon or Mott. Last week, Mott got ran over by a Walled Lake Western. They need to figure out their identity on both sides of the ball. As for South Lyon, this program hasn't been great in a few years, but their year could be a resurgence!

MAC

Anchor Bay (2-0) defeated Roseville (1-1), 66-65

This Anchor Bay offense is getting off to an incredible start, scoring 51 last week and 66 this week. Good luck stopping this offense.

OAA

Ferndale (1-1) defeated North Farmington (0-2), 20-12

Ferndale is on-par with how good I expected them to be this season. North Farmington on the other hand is not looking good through two games. Yikes.

Groves (2-0) defeated West Bloomfield (1-1), 28-13

I had a gut feeling that Groves was going to be very good this season. Their week 1 Victory over UofD wasn't super impressive, but this win is extremely impressive. On the flip side, I'm surprised that West Bloomfield couldn't score more points. This is a high-octane offense. Next week, both teams will be favored (Groves vs. Rochester, West Bloomfield vs. Southfield)

Clarkston (1-1) defeated Southfield A&T (1-1), 48-0

If you want a sign that Southfield has regressed significantly since last year's state championship, here it is. Clarkston is a great team, but last year's Southfield team beat the Wolves 20-17.

Oxford (1-1) defeated Harper Woods (1-1), 38-0

This one is a head-scratcher. Harper Woods was favored in this one, and they've got one of the most talented offenses in the entire midwest. I have no clue how Harper Woods got shut out with their offensive firepower. For Oxford, it's obviously an incredible win for the program. I'm extremely curious to see how both teams fare moving forward.

Ottawa-Kent / RCA

South Christian (2-0) defeated East Grand Rapids (1-1), 42-28

This one was pretty close for a while, if I'm not mistaken. So far, it looks like East Grand Rapids has taken a sizable step forward from last season. South Chrisitan looks about on-par with last season, but it's maybe a little early to say for sure.

FHC (2-0) defeated Portage Central (0-2), 7-0

Low scoring affair, as expected. Both offenses haven't looked amazing through two weeks, but both programs have consistently good defenses. I honestly think both of these programs have taken a step back since last season. Time will tell if I'm correct.

Rockford (2-0) defeated Muskegon (0-2), 28-21

The Rams get another great win! On the other hand, I like the grit from Muskegon. A great bounce back game for them, and I fully expect them to pull it together sooner than later.

Byron Center (2-0) defeated East Kentwood (1-1), 43-20

Some are quite shocked about this score, and I don't know why. Look- Byron Center is an incredibly disciplined team. East Kentwood has some talent, but rebuilding a program takes time. Byron Center is just too strong for EK right now.

Mona Shores (2-0) defeated River Rouge (1-1), 21-6

A big game for Mona Shores, and a big game for several prospects. I saw a few great plays from [player_tooltip player_id='402064' first='Tomarion' last='Steward'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1290904' first='Jaeger' last='Johnson']. I said before the season that I expect Mona Shores to be a state-championship caliber team this season, and right now, my prediction is looking good.

Davison (1-1) defeated Grandville (0-2), 41-37

I've seen Grandville lose more close games than anyone. Against the best teams in the state, Grandville is almost always competitive, but they can almost never get it done. On a bright note, I loved what I saw from [player_tooltip player_id='206418' first='Jayden' last='Terry']. On the Davison side, [player_tooltip player_id='119260' first='Jaxson' last='Dosh'] had a super great game.

West Catholic (1-1) defeated Coopersville (1-1), 63-28

West Catholic is a very, very good team this season. I can't wait to see how high they can fly. A LEGIT state-championship contender.

Belding (1-1) defeated Spring Lake (1-1), 47-22

Belding had a tough, shocking loss last week. Spring Lake had a solid win last week. This week, everything is flipped. I really wonder how both of these teams will fare moving forward.

Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Heritage (2-0) defeated Midland Dow (0-2), 28-27
