Scouting Reports: Southeast Polk at Cedar Rapids Prairie

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Prairie picked up a signature win Friday night here at John Wall Field. The Hawks knocked off three-time defending state champion Southeast Polk, 30-20.   Here are some student-athletes that stood out during the contest:    Fason is an interesting two-way prospect. He scored this game's first touchdown as a tight end. He's a reliable route runner and blocker at that position. Fason stands out even more off the edge of Prairie's three-man front. He's quick on the snap, mixing power and speed to beat win. In this one, he caught five passes for 92 yards and a score, and delivered 4 solo tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and a sack.     The sophomore joined the Prairie Hawks after playing as a freshman at Iowa City High last season. The left tackle impressed Friday night against a very capable defensive front. Donald certainly looks the part at 6-foot-5, 320 pounds as a sophomore. He's more than a big body occupying space, though. Donald moves well with smooth footwork. He's powerful and shows strong, active hands. Keep an eye on this kid.     Swartzendruber teams up with Donald to give Prairie a pair of bookend tackles. They help pave the way for a balanced offense that keeps the defense honest. For his part, Swartzendruber thrives on the right side of the formation. He boasts long arms, quick feet and good bend. Swartzendruber's athleticism and agility stand out right now. His frame looks capable of adding good weight without him losing that.     Alexander stuck out when I saw Prairie play at Iowa City West late last season. He's raised his game since then, continuing his knack for disrupting offenses off the edge. He delivered 6.0 solo stops, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack in this game. He also rushed eight times for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Where he plays in college depends on the school and system, but he can compete at the next level. He's an excellent overall athlete with a great motor and feel for the game.     Glad I got to see Zelenovich in person after hearing great things about his game. After accepting a preferred walk-on opportunity from Iowa State this week, he tore up John Wall Field. Zelenovich caught 10 balls for 202 yards and two touchdowns. The Rams employ his flexibility as a receiver, lining him up around the formation before sending him out on a variety of routes. Zelenovich brings good size to the position and a measure of physicality, including a willingness to block.     Hanson flashes potential in his first year as a starter. If he can find more consistency and accuracy, he possess the skills need to make it at the next level. It starts with a strong arm capable of making difficult throws around the field. He tosses a tight ball out of a quick release. His sound footwork allows him to use his lower half as he steps into his passes. Hansen is a good athlete that can pick up yards on designed runs and keep plays alive off schedule.     From a family of accomplished wrestlers, Martinson plays football with the same tenacity with which he attacks his opponents on the mat. He certainly could wrestle in college but there's an opportunity on the gridiron as well. He posted seven solo tackles against Prairie, proving a difficult matchup for the interior of the its O-Line. As expected, Martinson uses good leverage in beating opponents. With his size, speed and athleticism, he can help of lot of programs looking for a playmaker at D-Tackle.
