Each week on Prep Redzone Oklahoma, we'll put a spotlight on one of, if not the very best game of the week. And this week, the slate has quite a few rivalry clashes but our sights are on this Class 6A-1 match-up featuring #5 Mustang hosting #8 Broken Arrow. It's a match-up of two teams that are wanting to jump up into that next tier of teams in this class that are serious contenders. Not just to make the playoffs in a very competitive Class 6A-1 but to make a deep run once they get into those playoffs.

Mustang looked flawless in their season opener a week ago against rival Yukon. They rolled to a 52-14 victory and there isn't much to critique about that victory. The Broncos went on the road and absolutely dominated from the start. On the other side, you have a Broken Arrow team that is actually playing their first game against an Oklahoma squad this week. They scrimmaged against an Arkansas squad and then beat Springdale Har-Ber in their season opener and fell last week to defending 7A champion Fayetteville.

In that loss to Fayetteville, the Tigers looked good in the first half. They led 9-0 at halftime but were outscored 30-14 in the second half and fell 30-23. The offense is one thing that has really stood out to us after two games. We like the balance that they have on that side of the ball and they have some special players, specifically in the running game. Turnovers really hurt the Tigers against Fayetteville so if they can limit those mistakes, they should be in a position to get a very big road win on Friday night.

For Mustang, like we mentioned, there wasn't a lot to critique on Friday night after they took care of business in Yukon. The Broncos looked outstanding on the offensive side of the ball and the defense was lights out as well. The defensive line and the front seven in general really caused problems for Yukon and when you look at this match-up on Friday night, you have a strong Broken Arrow rushing attack going up against a strong Mustang front seven so something is going to have to give. Or more likely, other guys will have to step up on Friday night.

Below, we take a look at three players for each team that are not only some of the best players in the match-up, but these three players will play a very important role in the outcome of Friday's showdown!

BROKEN ARROW'S PLAYERS TO WATCH

Jeremiah Ssettimba - Junior Quarterback

Junior quarterback Jeremiah Ssettimba has had an up and down start to the 2024 season so we're looking forward to what he does when he gets back on the field. He had a really good outing in the season opener but had some interceptions in the week one loss to Fayetteville. Ultimately, it didn't cost his team so that was a silver lining. But we could be looking at a high-scoring game on Friday so taking advantage of the possessions will be important. If Ssettimba plays like he did in week zero, the Tigers could be heading back east late on Friday night with a huge road win.

Kole Lamont - Senior Linebacker

As exciting as Broken Arrow's offense has been in the first two weeks with the playmakers and scoring, the big key for us on Friday night will be Broken Arrow's defense. If they can get stops, they'll be in a good position. Despite the loss last week, senior linebacker Kole Lamont had a really strong showing with double digit tackles and multiple tackles for loss. Mustang has a quarterback that can tuck the ball and lower the shoulder. Lamont (and the rest of the Broken Arrow front seven) will need to know what he's doing at all times and be ready to bring the physicality to him.

[player_tooltip player_id='649663' first='Octavian' last='Roberson'] - Sophomore Running Back

Sophomore running back [player_tooltip player_id='649663' first='Octavian' last='Roberson'] is quickly becoming one of the running back names that you have to know with the state's 2027 class. He had breakout moments last season with the Tigers as a freshman but he's back and looking even better so far through two games. He's run for more than 100 yards in each of the first two games and he's also shown that he can be a threat in the passing game. Last week, Roberson was an absolute workhorse with nearly 30 carries on the night. We've liked what we've seen so far this year from the QB/RB duo of Ssettimba and Roberson.

MUSTANG'S PLAYERS TO WATCH

[player_tooltip player_id='1211251' first='Jaytee' last='Johnson'] - Junior Wide Receiver

Whenever you score 50+ points in the season opener, you usually have a player or two that just absolutely goes off. Junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1211251' first='Jaytee' last='Johnson'] was one of those guys in the win over Yukon. Johnson has been hungry to get back on the field after breaking his collarbone early on in the 2023 season. He would finish the night against Yukon with over 150 receiving yards and three touchdowns. His twin brother Jaden was absolutely electric for the Broncos last season and with both of them on the field and causing problems, the Broncos should have an advantage and not many defenses can slow both of them down.

Louie Jones - Senior Defensive Lineman

With the weapons that Mustang had coming back on offense, we figured they would be solid on that side of the ball. One of the surprising results from the Yukon game was the dominant play from the Mustang defensive line. And leading that charge was senior defensive lineman Louie Jones as he would finish the night with four sacks. That was one of, if not the top mark for sacks in week one. Jones was on our radar coming into this season as a player to watch but he certainly backed it up in week one with a huge performance. They'll need that again as he goes up against a strong BA offensive line.

[player_tooltip player_id='998363' first='Trajan' last='Williamson'] - Senior Quarterback

Just like Johnson, senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='998363' first='Trajan' last='Williamson'] was hungry to get back on the field after missing the second half of last season with a hand injury. We've written about Williamson a few times in the last two months about how it'll be good to see him back on the field and healthy. Well, he lived up to the preseason hype because in the first game of the year, he was nearly perfect. He went 21-23 passing for over 300 yards and he also got the job done on the ground. We thought that Williamson was going to come back with a vengeance this season and it's just one game but so far, he has.
