Welcome to the second phase of the 2024 season – region play. We've got some critical matchups in the Catawba River Region that will feature teams who are trying to keep their momentum going from what they've built in the non-region slate, while others are looking forward to having a fresh start.

Either way, everyone is 0-0 and it's a new season starting on Friday night.

Rock Hill (1-3) at Clover (3-1)

Clover has a one-two punch in the backfield with [player_tooltip player_id='1603816' first='Grady' last='Stone'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1012627' first='Landon' last='Stone']. Grady had one touchdown while Landon had 129 yards rushing along with two touchdowns. Both ran hard in the hole, as we saw last week against York. Keep an eye on Jayden Henry at receiver as well. The Blue Eagles put on a defensive clinic, with [player_tooltip player_id='1734584' first='Brandon' last='Smith'] and Tyler Chapman registering two sacks respectively.

The Bearcats put up a lot of points in their loss to Hartsville with [player_tooltip player_id='809751' first='Ian' last='Grissom'], [player_tooltip player_id='1012834' first='Malik' last='Clark'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1360412' first='EJ' last='Ratley'] at the forefront offensively, and will look to keep it going this week.

Dreher (2-1) at York (1-3)

York will be looking to get back on track, especially after the performance offensively last Friday night against Clover. Ziggy Byers was one of the bright spots for the Cougars, with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Jay McCoy had a 55-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. Jeremiah Ellis, Jonathan Tobias and [player_tooltip player_id='1360047' first='Ryan' last='Carter'] will be three names to watch as well.

Keep an eye on [player_tooltip player_id='816750' first='Kaleb' last='Berry'] at receiver for the Blue Devils.

Catawba Ridge (3-1) at Fort Mill (1-2)

The Copperheads are starting to find their groove offensively with quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1574007' first='CJ' last='Couch']. He threw for three touchdowns as they picked up their third straight win with a 38-14 over Spring Valley last week. [player_tooltip player_id='1360198' first='Lewis' last='Price'] is a force to be reckoned with defensively, as he had a strip sack and got in on offense for a touchdown. Keep an eye on [player_tooltip player_id='1283702' first='Braylen' last='Burgis'], who had a 18-yard touchdown reception last week along with [player_tooltip player_id='1603804' first='Colton' last='McCauley'], who also caught a touchdown last week.

Fort Mill hung around with Lancaster, but ultimately fell short last week. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1149056' first='Quinn' last='Kelly'] had a solid outing, throwing for 224 yards and a touchdown. The two receivers to keep an eye on for the Yellow Jackets are Josiah Mckenzie and Braylon Thomas, who each had a touchdown. [player_tooltip player_id='1267211' first='Gray' last='Patterson'] is proving to be a valuable asset for the Jackets defensively, as he had a pick on the first play of the game last week.

Marvin Ridge (2-2) at Indian Land (3-0)

The Warriors are 3-0 and are coming off a bye last week. They had a big performance from Jamal Horton who ran for 201 yards and two touchdowns against Andrew Jackson. Keep an eye on freshman quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1467825' first='Matt' last='Kucia'], who is coming into his own in the Warriors' offense along with star receiver Sequel Pattterson who had six receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

Nation Ford (1-3) at Northwestern (4-0)

Northwestern picked up a 28-14 win over South Pointe to conclude non-region play. The play of Trojans' quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='241044' first='Finley' last='Polk'] was solid as he went 15-of-21, 161 yards and two touchdowns in the win – one to [player_tooltip player_id='753896' first='Jayden' last='Nichols'] and the other to [player_tooltip player_id='1267334' first='Kameron' last='Vance']. Zymier Gordon Miles had a 20-yard touchdown run and is proving to be a steady hand in the backfield. Kyle Robinson led the defense in tackles with 9 and four of them for a loss. [player_tooltip player_id='1267200' first='Tamarion' last='Watkins'] was second on the team with six tackles.

Nation Ford put up points in bunches in a wild shootout against Richland Northeast, where they fell short. Falcons quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1575359' first='Carson' last='Sanford'] threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns while Patience Andrews ran for three touchdowns. [player_tooltip player_id='1575429' first='Josh' last='Ameo'] and Lucas Barz will be two other guys to watch offensively.

AC Flora (3-1) at South Pointe (2-2)

The Stallions fell to Northwestern 28-14 last week, but may have settled on their quarterback in [player_tooltip player_id='473002' first='Cameron' last='McMillon'], now that he is back from offseason surgery. He threw one touchdown to Caymen Finch to keep them in the game, as part of a 202 yard passing night. Mason Picket Hicks ran for 102 yards and one touchdown. Keep an eye on Dalian Duncan and [player_tooltip player_id='1249764' first='Jordan' last='Collins'] (pictured above) at receiver.

Falcons quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1025784' first='Roper' last='Wentzky'] threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns in their 20-17 win over Laurens last week. But it was the play of [player_tooltip player_id='1592244' first='Brandon' last='Mack'] that created balance for them last week, rushing for 184 yards on 34 carries and a touchdown. Keep an eye on Tripp Van vlake at receiver as he had 94 yards and two touchdowns. [player_tooltip player_id='1422589' first='Peyton' last='Bishop'] led the Falcons defensively with nine tackles, while Hugh Manning had eight tackles with three tackles for loss.
