It's tough to take away anything positive from Mount St. Joseph's performance against Bishop McDevitt. One sure bright spot was quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='206438' first='Benjamin' last='Raines']. 6'3, weighs in anywhere from 210-215 pounds, ranked just outside of the top ten among his 2026 passing peers. Raines carries quite a bit of flare to his game. Although sacked 7+ times, Raines did a good job evading pressure in a myriad of ways. Moving his launch point to either side of the tackles, stepping up into the pocket, delivering the ball off-platform or via different arm slots, Raines did well with what was presented to him. Did he miss a few throws, yes. Did he hold onto the football a bit too long at times, yes. These are nitpicks, there were far and away more good decisions and throws than there were bad. Up against an out-of-state program, hours away from home, I think Raines had a good showing. Tight window passes were completed, no matter the score or situation Raines didn't falter in terms of confidence. Littered throughout his Week 1 tape are throws that wowed MD scout Todd Haldis, as well as myself. This week should serve as a building block for Raines to grow from moving forward, a lot of good to acknowledge before facing his next opponent.

[player_tooltip player_id='855326' first='Devin' last='Harris'] is cemented deep into the depths of this legendary PA QB class. There are about 40-50 good ones, with Penn Hills' starting quarterback ranking in the middle of the pack. "Middle of the pack" might bring forth a bad connotation, that is until you realize he's also ranked a Top250 junior. A new setting, in an environment he's unfamiliar with, all of this and Harris (formerly out of Shady Side Academy) still went toe-to-toe with [player_tooltip player_id='402468' first='Torin' last='Evans'] in a game that would be classified as a shootout. I had questions about Harris' frame coming into this one, seeing him up close helped dissolve some of those worries. Flashed a capable arm, one that could easily stretch the field. [player_tooltip player_id='447350' first='Carter' last='Bonner'] was on the receiving end of many Harris passes, the two continuing a flow of good chemistry that has translated over from their time at SSA. [player_tooltip player_id='402468' first='Torin' last='Evans'] and Susquehanna Township brought forth several options to attack Penn Hills with. Harris didn't have as many weapons at his disposal, yet was a drive away from leading his team to victory on the road. A lot to like, hope he gets his tape up sooner rather than later.

[player_tooltip player_id='402468' first='Torin' last='Evans'] is a bit lower down the rankings ladder when comparing him to his game matchup (Penn Hills' [player_tooltip player_id='855326' first='Devin' last='Harris']). I'd be the first to acknowledge that Evans outplayed his positional counterpart in this one and that's saying something. Decision-making, accuracy, and awareness/feel for the field stood out to me. We've had Evans in camp, he performed well, but nothing beats seeing a quarterback make decisive throws with a pass-rush baring down his neck. Evans, checks off a ton of boxes, with measurables being the lone trait lacking currently. Evans dished the rock to several different targets. Throwing the pill around the field, Evans was able to complete passes at all three-levels of the field. Accurate in the short game, could have landed a few more intermediate/deep balls in this one, yet still pleased with his overall performance. I told many media beforehand that Evans is capable of scoring with his legs inside of 20 yards if you give him the chance. Evans proved me right in front of my peers by scoring a touchdown and a 2-pt conversion with his legs. Said score would end up being the difference in this great game against Penn Hills. Confident and trusting of his weapons, Evans was able to distribute accordingly to Brown, Kern, and Cyrus, keeping the Penn Hills secondary guessing each time. More weeks like this and Evans will force a rankings boost.

It's tough to mention any West Catholic prospect after the showing put up by the Burrs against a loaded Imani Christian team. The game was never close, yet this is a prime example of why I like to go to games in person. If you look at the scoreboard, or a tweet that tells you the score, you won't get the entire story. I came away pleased with senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='281312' first='Kal-El' last='Durham']. At his stature, throwing the football well against any team is tough to do, he's done so in the past. Throwing well against a secondary loaded with Division One talent is an even more difficult task, one Durham was tasked with taking early this past Saturday morning. Durham did all he could, maximum effort was given from what I can tell. When plays broke down, which many did right after the snap, Durham was tasked with creating something out of nothing. Grading him on a lower scale, understanding the circumstances he's pitted up against, I'd say Durham did a good job improvising with his legs. Durham has always served as a dual-threat prospect, he looked particular good in the open-field as a debuting senior behind center. Durham housed a QB keeper in this one, this serving as the lone score put on the board by the Burrs. The West Catholic coaching staff can hold their head knowing their man behind center can always create something out of thin air if sets go awry early. More outings like this and Durham will see a boost in rank easily.

[player_tooltip player_id='386132' first='Wanieq' last='Scott'] came down with a few impressive grabs in what would be a big loss against Central Dauphin East. With [player_tooltip player_id='855324' first='Najee' last='Still'] in the game, Scott was able to stretch the field with his stride, locate an accurate ball by Stills some 40+ yards downfield, and reel in a highly difficult catch. Locating the football while maintaining his balance and speed, Scott has come a long way. Scott would also reel in 3/4 other catches, all of which he showed off better than expected wiggle in open space. I expect Scott to run free downfield, I expect him to be a burner. What I didn't expect is his solid ability to make kids miss with the rock in his hand. Tough to say good things overall, but I like the week Scott had.
