I would like to stand on my soapbox for the first time in a long time, so please be patient.

I played eight-man football and coached eight-man football. I completely understand that there are stereotypes about the eight-man game, but an athlete is an athlete.

The cream always finds a way to rise to the top and if eight-man athletes want to get noticed they can. I wish there would have been internet sites like Prep Network to help players in the 1980s and 1990s get noticed by college coaches.

Having made that statement, I feel Prep Redzone can do a better job of covering the eight-man ranks, but also that athletes and coaches from the eight-man ranks can do a better job promoting their skills and programs.

When Prep Redzone Kansas launched in 2020, I regularly featured prospects from the eight-man ranks. When I returned to Prep Redzone for the 2023 season, I also wrote the “Eight-Man Gems” scouting reports, but the depth of those reports was not what I wanted. I did not cover nearly enough programs or athletes.

Several eight-man athletes are in the Prep Redzone Rankings, but not enough. I plan to make it a point this season to provide more extensive coverage of athletes from eight-man schools. As we head into the 2024 prep football season I will continue to be the primary contact for eight-man athletes and coaches. I want to improve our coverage of Kansas eight-man football, but I have travel restrictions and need more support from the coaching ranks to accomplish that goal.

Eight-man coaches please post your stats on Max Preps or email me stats. Athletes, please utilize social media platforms like HUDL and X to promote yourselves. I can be reached at deckscoutks@gmail.com or @KSScoutDeck on X.

If you have been following the recent Prep Redzone reports, then it is clear that we are building a strong team of football scouts in Kansas and that those scouts are super hyped for this season.

Prep Network has long looked for a scout in Western Kansas, but we are still searching. If you or anyone you know would be interested in scouting in Western Kansas for Prep Redzone, Prep Dig, Prep Hoops, or Prep Girls Hoops please feel free to contact me with questions or apply online at this link https://prepnetwork.com/our-careers/#current-openings.
