'25 Position Breakdown: Tight Ends Pt. 1

As we continue our dive into the 2025 class, it's time to shine a spotlight on the top tight ends who are making waves in the 2025 class. In this two-part series, we'll be breaking down the top-ranked tight ends, taking a closer look at what makes them stand out on the field. From their momentum-swinging catches down the field to their help in the run game, we'll explore why these players are ones to watch as the new season unfolds.    [player_tooltip player_id='1323311' first='Brian' last='Townsend'] is an incredible athlete out there on the field for Arbor View's offense. With some really impressive speed once he gets going, he can certainly stretch the field for their offense. At a very solid 6'4" and 220 lbs, he's got the strength to make a real difference in the run game as well. Our very own <a href="https://prepredzone.com/author/zack-reyes-author/">Zach Reyes</a> had this to say about Arbor View's rising star:   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> Townsend's entering his first year of varsity football with massive upside as a converted basketball athlete with a high-level receiving skillset- he's added nine D-I offers, including five from the Mountain West, since his strong showing in spring ball and should continue to add to that list with a breakout senior season. </blockquote>      After making the switch from linebacker to tight end, [player_tooltip player_id='820638' first='Eli' last='Yamauchi'] didn't lose any of his aggression. A true weapon in the run game, his strong base provides him with the power he needs to block players that have a clear size advantage over him. He always keeps his legs moving so when he gets his hands on the faster linebackers, they aren't able to break off of his block. Moving swiftly out there on the field, Yamauchi possesses some soft hands. Able to make his presence felt both in the running and passing games, he's got some incredible reach at 6'6". That reach comes into play both when blocking – he's really hard to escape from once he gets engaged with defenders – and when catching the ball with his massive catch radius. As he continues to work on his speed, Clark could see hs game take the jump to the next level. Taking on a much more prominent role in 2024, Clark could really start to turn some heads on the football field.      At 6'2" with really long arms, [player_tooltip player_id='402737' first='Alex' last='Hancock'] shows a lot of promise as a pass catcher. A multi-sport athlete that averaged nine points on the hardwood as a junior, his athleticism shines on the football field. He's got a massive catch radius and although he's not the fastest player, he moves very smoothly on the field. Hancock seemingly understands how to attack a zone defense and is too shifty for linebackers and too big for most corners in man coverage. He doesn't always get the most drive when he's asked to block some of the bigger edge rusher, but with some room to add weight to his frame, that could change quickly.
