This is the final stage of preparation before pre-season practice hits in August. It is also the time of year when the players who are serious about their game and want to move up to the next level of competition take their last-second physical and mental prep seriously.

It is critical to cruise into the season peaking at the right time. This is the final opportunity to make a mark on high school football in the Sunflower State.

For seniors, this is it. The last one. No mulligans…

In this report we are looking at five standout RB/LB combos from the Wichita and Surrounding area and Western Kansas who have been training hard in the off-season knowing their last hurrah is upon them. They know their conditioning and mental toughness will be tested early and often as they will rarely leave the field and will be counted on to deliver on both sides of the ball.

These guys pound out the running game on offense and hammer it on defense. Old school warriors...

So, without further adieu, I bring you "The Weekend Five" - five RB/LB combos from the 2025 class who are poised and ready to blow things up this fall:

[player_tooltip player_id='390291' first='Colter' last='Oldham'] , 6'1, 220, LB/RB, Lakin HS, is ranked #45. He is coming off an excellent junior season as a dominating two-way player. He has also been busy in the off-season as the defending state champion in both the shot put and the discus. On offense he is a bulldozer of a running back who has great burst, quick feet and a year ago piled up 1,050 yards rushing with 14 TD's. Running the ball, he plows over defenders, shreds arm tackles with brute force and then shows off his deceptively fast acceleration once he breaks into the open. Where he really shines, however is as a jackhammer of a linebacker who shuts down the running game between the tackles. A year ago he used his outstanding football instincts and headhunter mentality to get in on 81 tackles, six tackles for loss, a sack and an interception. Get out and see a rising star this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='866511' first='Teron' last='Kraft'] , RB/LB, 5'9”, 180, Hoisington, ‘25 is ranked #160. He is coming off a standout season a year ago when he gained 1,228 yards on 161 carries, scored 14 total touchdowns and made first-team all-state for his efforts. On offense, he is a dual-threat, pounding back out of the run-oriented flex-bone, who uses his low center of gravity and powerful base to command extra yardage. His ball-carrier numbers were good, but could have been even better as he missed a couple of games due to injuries. On defense, he can play linebacker or defensive back and a year ago was in on 59 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and three sacks. He has been hitting it hard in the off-season in the camp-clinic circuit and perfecting his craft in order to take his physical, workhorse game to the next level this fall. Get out and see a kid getting ready to shine in 2024.

[player_tooltip player_id='866510' first='Karter' last='Gonzalez'] , 6'0, 215, LB/RB, Hesston is ranked #161. A two-way, multi-positional standout, he is coming off an impressive season a year ago when he ran for 562 yards, averaging right at six yards a carry, had 200+ receiving yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He is a powerful, physical playmaker who can provide power running at fullback or burn the defense on the perimeter in a one-back set. He catches well out of the backfield and is a piledriving blocker when not toting the mail. He is also a punishing linebacker who reads and reacts with impressive closing speed. A year ago he gave fans and opponents an idea of what is to come when he piled up an eye-popping 116 tackles and had eight tackles for loss. An aggressive ballhawk, he essentially shuts down the opponent's running game inside and on the perimeter. He has been hard at it in the off-season and is poised and prepared for a big-time encore in 2024.

[player_tooltip player_id='285710' first='Landon' last='Harp'] , 6'0, 205, RB/LB, Andale, is ranked #177. He is coming off a good season a year ago even if the team results were not as hoped. He is a powerful tailback with good burst and acceleration and has great eyes picking out holes and running to daylight. He is a strong, slashing runner who can weave in and out of traffic or cutback against the grain and take it to the house. He is also a pounding blocker who will hit defenders in the mouth. On the other side of the ball he is an instinctive defensive back who can line up as a linebacker and help shut the run game down between the tackles and on the perimeter. He is an athletic, instinctive ballhawk who moves well through traffic getting to the ball. He has excellent read and reacts skills as evidenced by his five interceptions a year ago. He is also a torpedo on special teams and a reliable open-field tackler. Definitely another Andale stud to get out and see see this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='716729' first='Brayden' last='Dibble'] , 5'11, 180, RB/LB/S, Cheney, is ranked #245. He is coming off a standout season a year ago helping his team go undefeated and win the state championship, as well as piling up just under a thousand all-purpose yards. A versatile playmaker, he lines up all over the formation, or in the different Cheney schemes. One play he might be at tailback or in a single-back set, the next he is split wide or in the slot and even occasionally takes the wildcat snap. He is a smooth, athletic, difference maker, with excellent running-back instincts. He hits the hole fast, spinning, breaking arm tackles and accelerating to daylight and eventually paydirt. He has fluid hips and can burst laterally and shift gears very effectively. He is a physical runner for his size and rarely gets dragged down by one defender. Get your popcorn out for this guy.

In conclusion, get these guys on your watchlist and if they play in your vicinity get out and see them in action. You will not be disappointed. And, as always, if anyone runs across any players "flying under the radar", feel free to reach out to CoolDaddyO via DM on X.
