PRZVA Team Preview: Lake Braddock Bruins

Head Coach Mike Dougherty and his squad have bigger aspirations than a region championship in 2024 and by the looks of it I can see why. All he did last year was snag 68 receptions with 8 touchdowns and will look to replicate those eye popping numbers in 2024. A speedster who is the type of player you build your offense around, [player_tooltip player_id='1230176' first='Kai' last='Austin'] committed to the Tribe back in May so he could focus on helping the Bruins win a state title. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With a potential looming quarterback battle going for Lake Braddock, Austin is the prototype for any qb. A true wrecking ball at defensive tackle Pane was a first team all region selection as a junior, he was one of the best defensive lineman in Class 6.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The accolades have poured in for this man since he was a freshman, it is time for colleges to start taking notice. The big tackle will anchor this stout offensive line and expect more offers to start trickling in for him very soon. I broke down his play back in April below:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>He is very physical in the run game and surprisingly nimble on his feet, each time he pulls you feel bad for the defender in his way.  The big man is a good pass blocker too, once he gets out of his stance he is tough to maneuver around. At Center he leads the Bruins high powered offense, but make no mistake he can play multiple positions on the oline. His blitz recognition is as good I have seen and he can move very well when the pull him. Very nimble and elusive in the pocket, Suris throws a pretty ball and has attracting the interest of many division 3 schools. This is what I wrote about him in my underrated gems article last month:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>Division 1 bound Jackson McCarter's heir apparent is <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='853848' first='Payton' last='Holmes']</strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/payton-holmes/"></a> and seeing him in person, I can attest he is ready to carry the load. He will have to wait another season for more carries (McCarter is entering his senior season) but it wouldn't shock me to see him involved more offensively this fall for the Pioneers. A lefty passer Jackson is one of the top ranked quarterbacks in the entire 2026 class, attracting the interest immensely of my colleague Vic Castillo. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A dual threat Jackson has a big league arm and can deliver a strike on the run also. We have a quarterback battle that's going on currently between Mike Suris and Ty Jackson. That's only gonna make us better. Our offense returns 9 starters from last year‘s team. Our defense graduated 9 starters, but we're very high on a lot of the guys that were in the program that have worked hard to this point. Our schedules always a challenge. There's five teams that we play that could win the region championship. Our toughest matchups out of conference will be Madison and Westfield. In conference every game is tough. Lake Braddock has had it mindset on a state title since their 2023 campaign ended and nothing has changed. The Bruins play in a dangerous Patriot conference and have out of conference showdowns with Westfield and James Madison looming.
