PRZPA Team Preview, State College

<p><strong>Season Outlook</strong>: State College went 7-4 last year and lost to Erie McDowell in the 2nd round of the PIAA Playoffs. State College does bring back a good core of players and I expect them to improve on that record this upcoming season. State College does play in the competitive Commonwealth Section of the Mid-Penn Conference, which has a good group of teams. </p>   <p><strong>Current Head Coach: </strong>Matt Lintal (Entering 11th Year)</p>   <p><strong>Key returning players for the 2024 season:</strong></p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Having a quarterback returning like [player_tooltip player_id='1091208' first='Eddie' last='Corkery'] is a good place to start for a football team. Corkery played well for State College last year and hopes to build on that this year. He was at our Prep Redzone Showcase and he played well. Below is what I wrote about him after the showcase:</p>   <p><strong>“[player_tooltip player_id='1091208' first='Eddie' last='Corkery']<a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/eddie-corkery/"></a></strong> is another talented quarterback who did a nice job at the PRZ showcase. Corkery might have the strongest arm of this group of quarterbacks. He does a great job throwing deep-out routes or deep balls. Both of those type of passes you see his strength on those types of passes. Corkery also uses excellent mechanics well to throw a good accurate pass. Corkery is a player who started last year for State College and should only improve going into his 2nd year as a starter.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Eddie_Corkery2/status/1806502138446508475 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='1091194' first='Daimear' last='Coad'] has limited film but flashes some legitimate skills as a wide receiver. He runs good routes and catches the ball well in traffic. He has big-play ability and can make a short pass play into a big play anytime he touches the ball. He also played as a defensive back. He shows good coverage skills. Coad already has a Division One offer from Akron. He can do it all from his linebacker position. He is a legit athlete with good speed. He has recently picked up several Division One offers including Villanova, Lehigh, Richmond, and many others. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year: </p>   <p>"<strong>[player_tooltip player_id='269136' first='Michael' last='Gaul']</strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/michael-gaul/"></a> is a talented linebacker who is equally as good inside the box as he is outside the box in space. As an inside-the-box linebacker, he does a good job reading and reacting to the play and then making the play near the line of scrimmage. As an outside linebacker, he is good at playing in space. He is good on pass coverage. He played as an offensive tackle for State College last year. He does well by exploding off the ball and blocking defensive players. His stance and starts are excellent from the offensive line position. He moves his feet well and stays in front of pass rushers well. Gaul showed a ton of potential last year and I expect him to continue to grow as a player going into his sophomore year.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/MatthewGaul_/status/1727720881802113398 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='647291' first='Luke' last='Milito'] is a good offensive lineman prospect. He can play up and down the offensive lineman and plays it at a high level. Below is what I wrote about Milito earlier this year: </p>   <p>"<strong>[player_tooltip player_id='647291' first='Luke' last='Milito']</strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/luke-milito/"></a> played both center and guard last year. Milito played both positions at a high level. He does a good job in pass protection by moving his feet to stay in front of defenders. He is also a good run blocker and does an excellent job of pulling and kicking out defenders. Milito is a good offensive lineman prospect". </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='1317127' first='Ty' last='Salazer'] is a good player who is equally as good as a receiver and as a defensive back. He can score anytime he touches the ball. Salazer recruitment picked up when he picked up an offer from Penn State as a Preferred Walk-On. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year:</p>   <p>"<strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1317127' first='Ty' last='Salazer']</strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/ty-salazer/"></a> is a dynamic athlete who can score whenever he touches the ball. Salazar scored three different ways last season. He scored on several receiving touchdowns, a punt return, and an interception he returned for a touchdown. He is a good wide receiver that makes circus-like catches look normal. He is outstanding on contested catches as he has good body control to catch the ball. Salazar has good speed, and he just runs by defenders. As a defensive back, he showed good coverage skills. Salazar is a talented prospect in the 2025 class. At wide receiver, he has a special ability to catch the ball. When the ball is in his vicinity and there are defenders near he usually will make the catch. He also has the speed to run by defenders. At defensive back, he has good coverage skills. Brushwood also was put on kick return and he had several long kickoff returns. He does a good job of getting off the ball and creating pressure on the offense. He uses his hands well to engage and rip through offensive linemen. Then he uses his athleticism and strength to control the offensive lineman. Keller also has a motor that never stops. He is constantly chasing plays all over the field. Keller recently visited New Hampshire. He is a good interior offensive lineman who uses his strength well. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year: </p>   <p>"<strong>[player_tooltip player_id='599304' first='Reese' last='Wilson']</strong> is another talented offensive lineman. Wilson plays bully ball at guard. He does a good job blocking bigger defensive linemen by using his leverage and strength to block them. Wilson is also good at pulling and kicking out defensive linemen. Wilson also does an job excellent of moving his feet to stay in front of defenders when he is pass-blocking. Wilson is a good offensive lineman who should only improve". </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='1155890' first='Jake' last='Lukac'] is a good tight end who is a Swiss army knife for the position. He does an excellent job as both a blocker and a receiver. He recently visited Pitt and Fordham football camps. Lukac has a good chance to play College Football in the future. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year: </p>   <p>"<strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155890' first='Jake' last='Lukac']</strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/jake-lukac/"></a> played as a tight end last year. Lukac did a good job catching the ball in traffic. State College used him as a receiver on seam routes down the middle of the field and he did an excellent job catching the ball in traffic. He knew he was going to get hit but caught the ball anyway. He isn't a burner with speed, but he does do a good job after the catch getting as many yards as he can. Lukac is a good blocker as well and they used him in a variety of ways to block. He does a great job of getting his hands on offensive linemen and not letting them get to the next level. He then uses his strength to split double teams and create chaos in the backfield for the offense. Mayer is equally as good as a pass rusher. He can get in the backfield and rush after the quarterback. Mayer is a talented player in the 2025 class.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Robert Strayer only played 6 games because he was injured last year. He played as a safety last year and did a good job at both run support and dropping in coverage. In run support, he filled the rushing lanes well and made several tackles in the open field. In pass coverage, he did a good job of dropping in his zone and taking away passing lanes. He has good skills and plays at a high level. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year: </p>   <p>"Nathan Haas played defensive end last year. He uses his hands well to engage and rip through offensive linemen. Haas showed good strength and athleticism that offensive linemen could not move them off his spot. Haas also has a motor that never stops. He chased down several plays all over the field. Haas showed good skills at defensive end and I expect an even bigger year next season". </p>    <p><strong>Season Outlook</strong>: State College has a chance to be good this upcoming season. Having a returning quarterback like [player_tooltip player_id='1091208' first='Eddie' last='Corkery'] sure helps. They also have plenty of talent along both lines of scrimmage and at the skill positions. They play in the competitive Commonwealth Section of the Mid-Penn Conference, so they will have their work cut out for them. State College still should be a good team this season.</p>
