PRZPA Team Preview, Lancaster Catholic

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Season Outlook:</strong> Lancaster Catholic went 9-2 last year and lost to West Perry in the 2nd round of the PIAA Playoffs. It was a successful season for Lancaster Catholic. Last year he played as a cornerback and as a running back, but was stuck behind a talented Senior running back. This season is Way's turn to shine. He is the top playmaker for Lancaster Catholic this year. He is a legit home run hitter every time he touches the ball. He has elite speed and when he gets into the open field he races past defenders. He also has good hands and catches the ball well out of the backfield. I expect the Crusaders to play him at slot receiver as well this season. He plays as both a wide receiver and as a defensive back. At both positions, he is a dynamic player. He recently committed to Monmouth, which is a great fit for him. At safety, he shows a good ability to play in coverage. He does a nice job of playing a deep zone and keeping everything in front of him. He also does a nice job in run support by coming upfield and making tackles in the open field. As a wide receiver, he is a classic outside receiver. He has excellent speed and runs by defenders when he runs routes. He has good hands and does a nice job after the catch by making a bigger play after he catches the ball. At linebacker, he has good instincts in the way he reads and reacts to the play and attacks downhill. He is a good athlete that moves well. He does a good job of running sideline-to-sideline making tackles. At the tight end position, he blocks well on the edge. He also showed some good hands in limited opportunities. At defensive back, he shows good coverage skills. He also has good ball skills and had an impressive interception in his limited playing time. The biggest impact I saw is his ability to tackle. He is not afraid to go upfield and make a tackle. He is a good athlete that moves inside and outside of the pocket well. He seems comfortable running with the ball. He has good speed and makes defenders miss well. As a thrower of the football he has good footwork and mechanics. He throws well on the run, especially on designed run plays. He should be much improved this year at quarterback. Getting a 2nd year as a starting quarterback is a huge advantage. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Final Thoughts:</strong> Lancaster Catholic lost a ton of good players last year, but brings back a good core of players, especially at the skilled positions. Their schedule is harder this season when they gain 2A Champion Camp Hill in week 1 and Elco in week 3 who is always a competitive team. I expect them to be in the mix for a Lancaster Lebanon Section 5 Title and make a playoff run. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
