As we enter the month of July, the 2024 high school football season is just over a month away! With that being said, it is time for another round of rankings updates. Our fourth rankings update for the class of 2025 in the state of Kentucky has been officially posted with tons of movement and several new additions. I will be taking the next week or so to break these rankings down by position. After already covering the offensive side of the ball, I have now turned my attention to the defensive side of the ball. With the defensive linemen and linebackers already taken care of, here are our top defensive backs in the class of 2025 in the state of Kentucky!

[player_tooltip player_id='919064' first='Buddy' last='Collins'] has continued to establish himself as the top defensive back in the state in his class over the last couple seasons. He lines up on the outside at corner where he has shown the ability to lock down his side of the field in man coverage. Collins does a great job of opening up and using his speed to run with receivers to mirror their routes. When the ball is thrown his way, he reacts with perfect timing to make a play on the ball. Collins also plays a role on both offense and special teams, scoring four rushing touchdowns and returning three punts for touchdowns as a junior. Buddy recently narrowed down his top four college choices to Marshall, Navy,Army, and Kent State, and I expect him to be a true impact player wherever he decides to play at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1252795' first='Isaac' last='Brown'] is a defensive back who caught our attention with a strong junior year. Brown lines up at corner where he is very reliable in man coverage. He does a great job of mirroring opposing receivers routes, not allowing for much separation to be made. When the ball is thrown his way, Brown has shown the ability to break on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. Isaac finished this past season with four interceptions in 15 games. He also finished his junior year with 24 tackles and one receiving touchdown. Brown currently holds offers from Liberty, Illinois State, Eastern Kentucky, Southeast Missouri State, and Thomas More, and I expect more to come his way as his is a true Division I caliber prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='904113' first='Myles' last='Meadors'] is an intriguing prospect who recently transferred to Corbin from Cabell Midland in West Virginia. Meadors lines up at corner where he is very impressive in man coverage. He does a great job of mirroring receivers' routes and fighting across them to make a play on the ball when it is thrown his way. Meadors also has played a key role on offense at receiver in the past where he is a dangerous deep threat. Myles currently holds an offer from Appalachian State and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play at the Division I level.

[player_tooltip player_id='735613' first='Caleb' last='Ricks'] is a defensive back who has been high on our radar for a while now. He lines up at corner where he is very reliable in coverage. Ricks locks down his receiver in man coverage, using his speed and physicality to not allow for any separation to be made. When the ball is thrown his way, he breaks on it with perfect timing to make a play. He has also shown the ability to come downhill and make tackles against the run. Ricks recently decommitted from Louisville as a baseball prospect so I'm curious to see if he takes football into consideration as he has received some Division I interest in both sports.

To wrap up our top five defensive backs in the class of 2025 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='373044' first='Avaion' last='Johnson']. Johnson is coming off a strong junior year at safety where he was very impressive against the run. He does a great job of diagnosing the play quickly then coming downhill to fill the lane quickly to provide run support. Once he gets to the ball carrier, he is a very reliable tackler in the open field. Johnson finished his junior year with 84 tackles and four tackles for loss in 13 games. He has also proven to be a ballhawk in the secondary, finishing this past season with six interceptions and seven pass breakups. Avaion currently holds offers from Eastern Kentucky, Marian, and Pikeville, and I expect more to come his way as he is a Division I caliber safety prospect.
