In this Two part series I will highlight five prospects each from class of 2028 and 2027 that stood out to me at any of the numerous New England showcases that took place in May of 2024 in the New England region. These names are all rising underclassmen that coaches should know about now if they don't already. Some have been fortunate enough already and picked up early offers in the recruiting process. This will be part 1 of a two-part series....

[player_tooltip player_id='1251345' first='Breydon' last='Evans'] is a name to know for sure! He is listed at 5'8" and 165 pounds. He will be attending Choate Rosemary High School in the fall of 2024. Breydon, most recently, as of March 12th, announced he is reclassifying into the class of 2028 at Choate. At the showcase, he caught my attention with his fast feet and ability to move around out there as one of the smaller athletes. After realizing he is a class of 2028, my eyes lit up. With a lot of time to still to develop physically, Breydon is without a doubt a player coaches need to see. He is a very explosive athlete who was getting in and out of breaks quickly and moving like he was an upperclassman. I verified his speed, confirming he recently ran a 4.62 laser in the 40-yard dash at the Syracuse camp. After digging up some more research about this phenomenal young athlete I was able to figure out Breydon is the "son" of Breyone Evans. Breyone Evans was a former Division 1 running back who played for Syracuse before transferring to Umass to finish his college career. Breydon is a rising 2028 prospect that coaches need to get eyes on early. I predict him to blossom into a Div 1 prospect before its all said and done.

I wrote about Owen back in March. I can't say enough about this kid. His measurables will be checked out in person. Owen is next in line to most likely take over the running back spot at Buckingham Browne and Nichols School once Bo MacCormick, Syracuse commit, graduates. He played Safety as an 8th grader this past season. It was very easy to see how and why he got time so early on in his career in such a competitive league that's loaded with future college prospects. Owen looked good as usual at this particular showcase. He is that one cut and get down hill type runner that can make you miss. Has great balance and lean when running the ball. His ability to make plays is what i love about this kid most. No matter where you have him on the field he is going to make plays for you. He showed he can catch the ball out the backfield. I predict Owen will add some offers by the end of his Freshman season. He currently has an offer from Umass Amherst.

[player_tooltip player_id='425663' first='Xavier' last='Thomas'] is listed at 5'10" and 180 pounds. He is a class of 2028 Defensive Back who will be attending Springfield Central High School in the Fall of 2024. A lot of times at events like this, I like to identify talent first with my eyes without seeing any info on the prospects, and then I will usually find out who any of the underclassmen are so that I can be sure to get eyes on them as well. When I made my round to the DB station Xavier caught my attention right away in the drills. I initially thought he was going to be an upperclassman. Once i learned he was class of 2028, I knew he was someone I needed to watch a little more closely. After watching him perform a little more in the drills, it was easy to notice he seems to have all the tools necessary to play Defensive Back. Excellent feet, hips, body control, showed good hands as well, high pointing balls with all hands every rep. He is, without a doubt, a prospect coaches should look further into. His physical measurables align as a Division 1 prospect. One special thing to take note of is Xavier is the younger brother of Tariq Thomas, who is a running back at Bucknell University.

[player_tooltip player_id='889367' first='Tommy' last='Mahoney'] is a class of 2028 offensive lineman at Dexter Southfield. He has a confirmed height of 6'3" and is listed at 275 pounds. Tommy is a straight dude. With a lot of attention surrounding 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='384216' first='Hardy' last='Watts'] and 2026 Anthony Hall at this event, Mahoney was able to stand out and impress coaches despite only being an 8th grader. During the drill period, he showed a good pop with his hands and moved with a nice low base, keeping his hands inside the frame. Tommy got some varsity time already as an 8th grader last season and will be a big-time rising prospect coaches should tap into now. His physical measurables align as a Division 1 prospect. I predict him to pick up an offer, if not more, by the end of his freshman season.

Riley will be a name to know for sure come the Fall of 2024. Riley caught my attention during the drill period with the Receivers. He has some twitchiness to him. He was getting in and out of his breaks very fluid. Fast, Quick feet. As I watched him a bit more closely during 1v1's he proved his ability. He shows to have a great understanding of route running. He won every rep he saw pressman, winning at the LOS with his release. He wins with his feet at the LOS, giving himself the leverage he needs to help create separation and win on his reps. I expect Riley to play a big, important role as a freshman in the Fall of 2024, which will help his development as a rising young prospect.
