With over 1,300 high school players signed up and over 80 colleges represented, to say the Miami of Ohio football camp was a well-attended event would be a grand understatement. It was great to see players perform well and be rewarded by the immediate interest of college coaches. The recruiting process can be a confusing one and the college coaches in attendance were simply great. They not only took the time answer questions about their particular schools but about the process in general. Talking not just to the athletes but parents as well. Really taking the time to answer every last question until the participants were done! It was great weather and a great day all around. I will be posting a series of articles highlighting some of the Ohio players who caught my eye. So here we go!

2025 LB [player_tooltip player_id='726767' first='Jimmy' last='Gibbons'] (Lake Catholic) 6'0 200- Gibbons, pictured above, had a really strong day. Physically he possesses a strong lower half and base. At 6' 200 pounds he can easily fill out to 220-225. His testing numbers were very solid for what I project to be a mike linebacker at the college level. Jimmy posted an 8'11 in the broad jump and a 4.81 in the 40. In the bag drills he showed quick feet and good body control. What I liked most was his change of direction and his fluid and explosive hips. He's a linebacker with all of the movement skills to cover the middle of the field. I know from watching his film in the past he has the ability to stalemate blockers, shed and make plays in the run game. Gibbons comes from a family of high-level high school football coaches which shows in his football IQ and natural instincts. This summer should be one where Gibbons start gaining recruiting traction and I'm excited to see where that goes!

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1296492' first='Cooper' last='Richmond'] (Streetsboro) 6'5 250- Richmond has offers from Toledo, Kent State, and Central Michigan so it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that he would have a strong showing on the day. That's exactly what he did. I mostly got the chance to see him in 1v1's. In his pass pro he showed a patient sets with heavy hands and a good anchor. He uses his hands well and his length to his advantage. A common mistake that younger linemen commonly make is to over-set in their pass pro which then opens up the inside. Richmond did a good job of using quick short kicks and mirrored well. At 6'5 Cooper carries his weight well and has the frame to add more good weight and get stronger. Expect him to add to his list of offers this summer.

2026 DL [player_tooltip player_id='1296494' first='Asiah' last='Harrington'] (Lakota East) 6'2 230- The first thing I noticed about Asiah was his length. He measured in at 6'2 230 and boasted good arm length based on my eye test. He showed good explosion in the broad jump putting up an 8'11. Athletically you could tell that Harrington is still growing into his body somewhat, but I thought he definitely flashed in 1v1's. He showed a good burst off the ball and the ability to work set up blockers from the outside in. On the edge he has the burst and the bend to get to the edge. He showed a nice spin move and shoulder dip counters to get inside on some other reps. As Asiah continues to grow into his body he's going to have the athleticism to put together some really strong pass rush and counter combos that will make him a problem off the edge.

2026 DL [player_tooltip player_id='1296493' first='Creed' last='Hill'] (Sheridan) 6'1 240- I first noticed Creed when he ran his 40-yard dash. Creed lined up at defensive end for his 1v1 reps, but I project him to a 3 tech. that can disrupt on the interior. I noticed him first when he showed to be a fluid runner posting a 5 second flat, a very strong time for a DT. In 1v1's Hill a good get-off, violent hands, and a nice dip and rip move. Though bull rushes are a big no-no in camps, I think has the lower body drive and the upper body strength to stand up and drive blockers. I think his quickness and bend will play well on the inside and he has plenty of time to continue to get bigger and stronger. As Hill continues to develop physically and works on his technique, I'm excited to see where his future can take him.

2027 DL [player_tooltip player_id='1296450' first='Reinaldo' last='Perez'] (Columbus Academy) 6'5 220- When I first saw Reinaldo, I had to do a double take.at the camp roster. Surely, he's not a 2027 I thought to myself, but he absolutely is. At 6'5 220 pounds he has excelent length. In drills he showed great coordination and body control for a young player at his size. He didn't win all of his 1v1's, but I thought he flashed against older and more experienced offensive linemen. You can see the plus athleticism and body type; he just needs to continue getting stronger and developing in his pass rush techniques. Perez has a really high ceiling right now the thing that I think needs the most development is just in him getting stronger. Once he has the added strength, he will be able to finish some of the moves that didn't work yet in his reps. Perez has already picked up an early offer from UMASS. If he continues to work hard and continue to get stronger and develop his pass rush skills, his D1 list of offers will grow and I could see him starting to attract P4 interest this fall into next offseason.
