Broadneck 7v7 - Star Players who Shined

<p>I plan to be busy over the month of June hitting up local MD 7v7's. My first one was at the Boradneck 7v7 tournament featuring 16 teams from all over the state. Was a great night of watching prospects compete, talking with coaches and getting eyes on some new players. Want to thank Coach Harris of Broadneck HS for having me and hosting it. </p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Evan lead his squad to victory on the day as Patuxent were crowned champions of the Broadneck tournament. He was impactful on both sides of the ball playing QB and S on the day. Evan is a player I've seen many times over the year and he is a flat out baller. Good size at 6'1" 190 and rocked up, he passes the eye ball test. A great athlete, recently running a verified 4.5 40, 4.3 shuttle and 11'5" broad jump. A dual threat QB, Evan had over 2,500 yards passing and 900+ rushing yards for 38 total TDs this past season and was SMAC Off Player of the Year. Evan was on point during the tournament, throwing with great timing and accuracy. He was able to layer the ball and make quick efficient reads. He throws a very catchable ball and has a quick trigger. Evan posses real nice arm strength, he can push the ball vertically. He will put it out there allowing his receiver to run under it and catch it in stride for big plays. Blouir was making big plays as a Safety as well, covering ground quickly and made a nice sideline interception. Evan recently picked up his first offer from St. Anselm and with his skill set, size, athleticism and grades (3.8 GPA); I will be shocked if he doesn't get some more this summer. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/EvanBlouir/status/1729485042529800434 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Calvin is another QB who shined during the 7v7 tournament. He threw with great accuracy, he was zipping it in some tight windows and hitting the WRs perfectly. With good pocket awareness and a quick release he was able to carve up defenses. Calvin showed great understanding of the offense, making nice reads and throwing with excellent timing/anticipation. He is capable of getting it deep as well, showing good arm strength and able to put good zip on his short-to-intermediate passes. Calvin has had great strides in his development as QB over the years and I expect him to have a big season for a loaded Broadneck team this fall. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/watkins__cj/status/1732165074079354896 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Connor was a lock down CB on the day. I don't think I saw him give up a catch in 1v1 coverage when I was watching and he always took on the opposing teams top WR. A good frame kid, he has a good build with wide shoulders and can easily see him getting up to 190lbs+ in time. Physical and good in press coverage, Connor has a strong jam at the LOS. He is able to re-route receivers, throw off their timing, and then able to turn & run with them. He is more than capable of playing off coverage as well. Rangy, eats up grass, and able to quickly read & react the play. Will see the pass develop and put him self in position to make the play or come up and support the run proving to be a strong tackler. I can see him playing some SS as well with his mix of run support and willingness to hit, while also being strong in different coverage schemes. Connor is very fluid in his backpedal and movements. Has nice shiftiness in his hips, able to re-direct quickly with no loss of momentum/speed. He also shows excellent ball skills, able to quickly get his head around find the ball and high point it. A nice overall athlete, Connor has a rapid stride that allows him to accelerate quickly up to top speed. I am a big fan of Connor's game, and while he holds a handful of FBS/FCS level offers it wouldn't surprise me to see some Power 4 schools come calling this fall.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/connor_adams2/status/1727068417344356669 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Another key piece to Patuxent's run to tournament victory, Keiden was effective at both WR and OLB. He is a great size player a 6'3" 210, a good frame that will fill out to 220lbs+ and long arms, Keiden looks the part for an athletic OLB. As a WR, Keiden is a big target who is able to shield defenders from the ball using his frame. Effective in hook-to-curl zones, over the middle, and as a red zone threat-he will go up and get the ball. On defense, he using his length to get hands on the ball and knock down passes. Showing smooth lateral movement with the ability to flip his hips to re-direct and get to the ball. Keiden is also a 3 sport athlete, playing OF for the baseball team and running track. With Keiden's mix of athleticism and good build he will have an impactful senior year.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/GutzKeiden </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">This was my first time getting eyes on Makel and he made some impact plays for an Old Mill squad that was the #1 seed in their group heading into the tournament playoffs. Makel is a long lean WR with a smooth gliding stride. He showed strong hands, being able to pluck the ball out the air and going up and high pointing passes. A vertical threat, he is able to able to get past defenders on the outside and beat them deep. He is also strong going across the middle and securing the pass. Makel runs fluid routes and is able to force the DB to open up allowing to generate separation. I expect Makel to have a break out junior year for a strong Old Mill team this fall. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Makelwilder13 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Clinton is another player I expect to have a breakout junior season, being part of a Middletown team that holds a lot of young talent looking to have an impactful 2024 year. A real nice size prospect at 6'2", Clinton has a build to hold 210lbs+ easily. Playing WR and S during the tournament, Clinton made handful of impactful plays on both sides of the ball. He is a great leaper, being able to climb the ladder and go get the ball over the defender and is a strong red-zone threat. Clinton showed strong hands and is fluid runner with good long speed. On defense, Mr. Lee was able to cover lots of ground and get his hands on many passes. I think as he continues to develop and bulk up, with his athleticism he could transition nicely to a hybrid off ball SS/OLB. Can't wait to see more of Clinton this fall as he could have strong season that catches a lot of peoples attention.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/ClintonLee08 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Matthew is a player who is poised to cement himself as a top player in the state his junior season. Coming in as the #100 ATH in the recent 2026 VA rankings, I can see him climbing those rankings this time next year. Talking with HC Isaiah Taylor, he expects Matt to be a big player for a Mt. Vernon team with a lot of underclassmen talent looking to make strides this fall. Making All-District WR/PR as a sophomore, Matthew posted over 700yds receiving with 12 total TDs. A quick twitch Slot WR who is a playmaker with the ball in his hands, showing nice elusiveness and vision which is also why he is so effective in the return game. Matthew is a real crisp route runner, is able to stem his routes and has quick feet to make sharp cuts with burst out of his breaks. A slippery player, he is a tough cover as he can get DBs on their heels and creates his own space with quick change of direction. Matthew also stands out off the field with a 3.97 GPA, he should be on a lot of colleges radars after this fall season.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Matthew_Moret27/status/1724098460968690160 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Nate is a QB for the future who flashed some high level ability on the day. Was the freshman QB last year and will have to wait behind senior QB [player_tooltip player_id='1232640' first='Calvin' last='Watkins'] this fall before taking over the reigns as Broadneck's started. He got plenty of reps in the 7v7 though and popped with some of his throws. He has a real live arm with good zip and accuracy. Throws a nice catchable ball and can put touch on it when needed. Layered his passes and has the arm strength to puss it vertically. Threw a gorgeous dime on a corner route for a TD, getting it up and over the defense and dropping it in perfectly for the WR by the back corner pylon.
