Simply put, this event was a absolutely awesome. In the midst of a very popular camp weekend where locally both Rutgers and Marist hosted competing camps, Van Curen managed to host over 500 prospects, roughly 65 colleges, well over 150 college coaches, and just one member of the media – me – who will be bringing you the exclusive media coverage of the event.
My exclusive coverage of the event continues with this piece on positional analysis of the group mentioned in the article’s title.
Positional Breakdown: Wide Receivers
Sincere Barner Sincere Barner 5'11" | 160 lbs | WR Woodbridge NJ | 2025 State NJ , of Woodbridge, was a prospect that I saw for the second time in as many camps. Although he did not participate in the combine portion of this event, his athletic abilities translated as clear as day to the gridiron. Barner was super quick in-and-out of his cuts. This ability to change directions, quickly, without losing any steam makes him a bonafide threat. Lastly, Barner showed that he is more than a burner as he handled passes that I thought were too hot to handle with ease, nabbing them with his soft hands….. Naseer John Naseer John 5'11" | 145 lbs | WR East Orange | 2026 NJ , of East Orange, is a rising junior prospect who I expect both his skills and athleticism to continue to improve over the course over the next two full seasons. Potential and upside aside, what caught my attention about John was a very savvy sideline catch that he made. I thought the pass was going arrant; however, John extended vertically, plucked the pass out of thin air, fought through contact, and all the while had the presence of mind to get a toe down and secure the catch through the ground in very limited space vertically up the sideline…… Another 2026 graduate, Ziare Fields Ziare Fields 5'9" | 160 lbs | WR Rahway | 2026 NJ of Rahway, showed great speed for a current junior, running 4.56 forty, and skills on the deep pass. Fields threatened and pressed on vertically with his speed until he had his matchup turn and bail. At that point, he dropped his hips and worked back toward the ball on a beautifully executed comeback route. The separation Fields created atop his route’s stem left the defender only an opportunity to play for the tackle.
Closing out are two prospects from Elizabeth, receivers Kyshawn Decarteret Kyshawn Decarteret 5'7" | 155 lbs | WR Elizabeth | 2025 NJ and Jaheed Thomas Jaheed Thomas 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Elizabeth | 2025 NJ – both 2025 graduates. Starting with Kyshawn Decarteret Kyshawn Decarteret 5'7" | 155 lbs | WR Elizabeth | 2025 NJ , he profiles as a slot receiver who moves quickly and can dominate underneath. His low center of gravity and athletic build, I speculate, makes him a hard prospect to take to the ground. Decarteret executed an exceptional out route, in which his cut was low, hard, sharp, and sudden. He also did not lose much-if-any steam when he broke off the stem. Later on Decarteret set up dig route very well. He sold a post, flipped the defender’s hips, and with that separation he created extended for a hands-only catch and an easy, uncontested score….. While Decarteret is certain to do his thing on one end of the field for the Minutemen, teammate Jaheed Thomas Jaheed Thomas 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Elizabeth | 2025 NJ figures to be the deep threat that offenses envy. Thomas had speed an power, as evidenced by his 115.5″ broad jump and 4.55 forty. Thomas is a burner who has tremendous vertical speed. He explodes upfield in a hurry and almost instantaneously gets defenders skating on their heels. A bit raw, I think Thomas can work on tracking the ball’s flight throughout the summer to expound upon his skill you cannot teach – speed.
