Simply put, this event was a absolutely awesome. In the midst of a very popular camp weekend where locally both Rutgers and Marist hosted competing camps, Van Curen managed to host over 500 prospects, roughly 65 colleges, well over 150 college coaches, and just one member of the media – me – who will be bringing you the exclusive media coverage of the event.
My exclusive coverage of the event continues with this piece on positional analysis of the group mentioned in the article’s title.
Positional Breakdown: Safeties
Initially listed as a defensive back, with his 6’4″ frame, Livingston’s Zemir Faith Zemir Faith 6'4" | DB Livingston | 2025 NJ is a safety in all likelihood. His size enabled him to cover a great deal of ground quickly and his does the same, but in terms of playing the ball when it is up for grabs. Faith puts a great deal of faith and confidence in his hands as he did a nice job of using his hands to feel his receiver’s route develop. Religiously, he refrained from getting too forceful to avoid the sin of committing a defensive penalty….. Making the trip down from the Bronx, Jaden Bigio made the trip to compete on behalf of Cardinal Hayes. Throughout the afternoon Bigio showed out with his recovery speed. This translated with numerous contested balls, many of which he did an exceptional job of high pointing. The balls Bigio managed to merely tip will eventually turn into picks as he works to loosen his hips.
Watching competition live, without having the combine testing scores, my reaction to Long Branch’s
Havier Gonzalez

was “wow, that kid is QUICK.” Days after once I received the combine scores my impression was validated. Come to find out, Gonzalez ran an incredible 4.15 pro agility, likely good for the best in the camp…..
Christopher Barrino

of West Orange likely lines up as one of the Mountaineer’s dog safeties, playing anywhere from 12 yards off the ball to at the line of scrimmage. I though Barrino was outstanding within 5 yards at the line of scrimmage. He was physical, aggressive, and forbid his opponent from getting loose with anything cheap-and-easy. As the routes got deeper, I thought he did a good job of maintaining his physicality, bumping and influencing routes off of their track as it climbed. Although on one spin I saw him take he got beat on a double move, Barrino ran well.
From St. Peter’s Prep,

rising sophomore outright impressed me. Rodriguez did an outstanding job of jamming receivers at the line of scrimmage, displaying his strong upper-body. However, I feel as though Rodriguez could jam receivers at the line without even laying a finger on them. Physically Rodriguez is a very broad prospect. His imposing stature proved for a number of opposing competitors difficult to maneuver and get around. Lastly, Rodriguez did a nice job of influencing routes downfield with his body….. Closing out is Elizabeth’s
Quameen Williams

. Atheltically, Williams scored out as a top performer with a 114″ broad jump and a highly respectable 4.34 pro agility. I thought that Williams moved very well in tight spaces and break on quick-cutting short-to-intermediate routes. He also did a nice job of matching the breaks and cuts of his opposing receiver. Lastly, Williams was exceptional at playing the ball at its apex.
