On Sunday, June 2, 2024 I had the privilege to cover Fairleigh Dickinson University Head Football Coach Anthony Van Curen's Football Camp, hosted on the beautiful campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University at Madison. Simply put, this event was a absolutely awesome. In the midst of a very popular camp weekend where locally both Rutgers and Marist hosted competing camps, Van Curen managed to host over 500 prospects, roughly 65 colleges, well over 150 college coaches, and just one member of the media – me – who will be bringing you the exclusive media coverage of the event.

My exclusive coverage of the event continues with this piece on positional analysis of the group mentioned in the article's title.

Positional Breakdown: Offensive Guards

[player_tooltip player_id='1283978' first='Gavin' last='O'Malley'] appears to be fighting for a job along Red Bank Catholic's interior line. O'Malley has a lower center of gravity and plays tight to his matchup's chest. As a result, he is difficult for most of his opponents to defeat. Although he got the better most matchups, I denoted one matchup in particular that I felt he should have one. He lost the rep due to his feet lagging just a bit. That said, as the summer rolls out O'Malley is best served to work ladders and other footwork drills to improve how fast he can move his feet..... If you follow my event coverage at all the last two seasons, [player_tooltip player_id='819153' first='John' last='Prokapus III'] of Shawnee is a prospect that we are well acquainted with at this point. Side aside, Prokapus tested out as arguably the top lineman in attendance, scoring a 107" broad jump, a 4.53 pro agility, and a 4.69 forty - respectively placing him in the 88th, 97th, and 100th percentiles for each event. Skill wise, Prokapus was like patience on a monument, waiting for his opponent to move before setting to them. He brought the physicality too, forcing the issue and staying close to his matchup, delivering body blow after body blow when he punched and recoiled.

For the second time in as many camps I had the opportunity to watch Elizabeth's [player_tooltip player_id='1279064' first='Joel' last='Lopez'] perform. Lopez, a rising sophomore, ranked in the more-than-respectable 84th percentile in his forty. Where Lopez excels, validating my evaluation of him during the PSR BIG Camp was that he does an outstanding job of keeping his feet moving. Doing so allows him to stay chest-to-chest, stonewalling his matchup as they fruitlessly work. Lastly, Lopez did a great job of keeping a weak rip move down in..... A prospect that I first discovered in the Twittersphere - and was subsequently impressive with his film - I finally got a live look at Hasbrouck Heights' [player_tooltip player_id='1225962' first='Oscar' last='Solis']. Solis' had utilization was outstanding. Although I am unsure if he is taught this or it just happened in live reps, Solis took a defensive principle - attacking the vee of the neck - and applied it to offense. In doing so, he stunned his opponent like a deer in headlights. Later on I realized that Solis actively attacks the neutral zone, looking to declare it as positive yardage for the offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1302976' first='Abdiel' last='Eduardo'] did not have to travel too far from his hometown of Teaneck. Eduardo did a great job of pressing and extending - both to keep defenders at-bat before they arrived to maintain separation and also as they got close to the body, pressing them off to create space if the threatened his body..... [player_tooltip player_id='1302977' first='Karl' last='Clarke'] from East Orange really forced the issue with his physicality. The rising sophomore profiled as a mauler type. He was aggressive in asserting himself in the neutral zone, he extremely active with his hands, and fought like a whirlwind in order to win the rep..... Last but not least was Julian Villalona from the Eagle Academy for Young Men II out of New York. One rep that I saw Villalona showed equal parts of savviness and nastiness when his opponent went for a swim move. As his opponent, unwisely, windmilled for the swim he left his hole oblique and sides exposed. Instinctively, Villalona buried his face right into his ribs and punished him for doing so.
