This is the sixth installment of a series highlighting the top uncommitted prospects in the state’s 2025 Class. You can also check out the previous entries: Part, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V and Part VI.
These next five student-athletes brings our total to 35:
Drew Francois Drew Francois 6'4" | 240 lbs | ATH Dubuque Senior | 2025 State IA , DE/TE, Dubuque Senior
Francois (6-4, 250) is a legit prospect on both sides of the ball. The Ram senior-to-be could develop into an athletic, pass-catching tight end or utilize that athleticism coming off of the edge.
During his junior highlight video, Francois shines as a receiver. He runs well and his a handful to tackle after the catch. He’s a willing and able blocker.
As a defensive end, Francois challenges the offensive tackle quickly with his explosion off of the snap. He closes well when he beats the block, whether it be getting to the quarterback or crashing down on a running back.
Francois has visited South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa and Northern Illinois this year. Division II Sioux Falls has offered a scholarship.
Carter Johnson Carter Johnson 6'4" | 210 lbs | DB Waukee | 2025 State IA , LB/S, Waukee
Johnson (6-4, 211) reported a scholarship offer from St. Thomas on Tuesday. He added it to the one he received from Minnesota State in late March. South Dakota State and Northern Iowa played host to him on visits this spring.
There’s a lot for scouts to like when watching his junior highlight video. Johnson is a versatile safety adept at supporting the run and closing in coverage.
Johnson diagnosis plays well from the deep position of the defense. After doing so, he gets to the ball quickly. He’s a sound tackler and brings some thump.
On the baseball diamond, Johnson takes advantage of his athleticism and hand-eye coordination he employs on the gridiron. He nears his junior season after starting 38 of 39 games as a 10th-grader, when he logged an .897 OPS (.455 OPS).
Garret Kluesner Garret Kluesner 6'2" | 225 lbs | OL Western Dubuque | 2025 State IA , C/DT, Western Dubuque
A viewing of Kluesner’s junior highlight video is recommended. He embraces the game’s physicality and overpowers opponents through the whistle.
Kluesner (6-2, 225) excels as an offensive tackle on the prep level, displaying smooth footwork and violent hands at the point of attack. What he shows on the outside would work well inside with his combination of athleticism and power.
From the defensive tackle spot, Kluesner leans on the skills that make him effective on offense. He gets off of the snap fast and uses his strong hands to work over opponents.
Kluesner is a good athlete. He’ll be competing at the state track meeting in the Des Moines this weekend having qualified third in the Class 3A shot put. He also wrestles.
Jackson Laver Jackson Laver 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Bettendorf | 2025 State IA , DB, Bettendorf
Laver (6-2, 175) illustrates an excellent understanding of the game during his junior highlight video. His read-and-reaction time shows a student-athlete that prepares for opponents.
The Bulldogs’ defensive scheme fits him well. Laver lines up at outside cornerback in a zone, locking down in coverage and jumping the run. These traits also would translate well to safety.
Laver makes extra tackles because he keeps his head up in coverage and breaks accordingly if it becomes a running play. He arrives at the ball quickly.
Bettendorf reached the state basketball tournament this past weekend with Laver contributing off of its bench. He shot 44.4 percent on three-pointers.
Jack Wallace Jack Wallace 6'2" | 215 lbs | QB Iowa City West | 2025 State IA , QB, Iowa City West
The Trojan signal caller will be starting for a fourth-year season in the fall. That doesn’t happen very often in the state’s largest classification, especially at a program as successful as West has been.
Wallace (6-2, 220) isn’t a running quarterback but he brings athleticism to the position. He is a member of the track and basketball teams as well.
It’s worth you’re time to watch Wallace’s career highlight video. Arm strength is apparent in the first few clips. It’s a compact, powerful throwing motion that generates velocity and allows him to fit the ball into tight windows.
Minnesota State has offered Wallace a scholarship. He’s visited a wide variety of schools, including Northern Iowa, Dartmouth and South Dakota State.
