Continue ReadingPrep Red Zone Iowa has watched a lot of film on the Class of 2025 recently while working on a rankings update that should be released in the near future. Plenty of talented prospects in the cycle remained available to colleges entering this first full week of May.
This is the fourth installment of a series highlighting the top uncommitted prospects in the state’s 2025 Class. The first one includes five student-athletes. Five more guys are featured in Part II and Part III.
Here are another five:
Kailer Smith Kailer Smith 6'6" | 230 lbs | TE Cedar Falls | 2025 IA , TE, Cedar Falls
Smith (6-6, 230) is one of the more undervalued 2025s in the state. He boasts the size and athleticism to be an impact performer at the next level.
When coaches watch Smith’s junior highlight video, they’ll be greeted with him blocking on the first four clips and then catching a touchdown pass. It’s a well-rounded, developed skill set.
Smith is committed to blocking and does it well. He engages the opponent quickly off of the snap, getting good leverage and driving with his legs. As a receiver, he’s fast off of the line and a huge target.
South Dakota offered Smith a scholarship on Tuesday. He had already reported offers from hometown Northern Iowa, Lindenwood, Western Illinois and others. Iowa played host to him on a spring visit and invited him to camp there this summer.
Gabe Meaney Gabe Meaney 6'6" | 225 lbs | TE Janesville CSD | 2025 IA , TE/DE, Janesville
Western Illinois offered Meaney (6-6, 215) a scholarship during a campus visit in early April. He also made spring trips to Iowa State, Northern Iowa and South Dakota. UNI and USD met with him at Janesville High this month, and he scheduled camps at Iowa, Iowa State and UNI.
What makes Meaney an intriguing as a prospect is that he could project at defensive end or tight end. You can check him out in action during his junior highlight video.
Meaney stands out in the eight-player game. Some of the college coaches are wanting to see how he looks in a more traditional setting at camp. It’s a great opportunity for him to walk away with more opportunities.
What he’s shown as a quick, athletic tight end will translate fine to 11 on 11. He’s big and physical enough to become a good blocker. And staffs always are looking for talented edge guys if he performs well there this summer.
Jarrett Kies Jarrett Kies 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Cedar Falls | 2025 IA , LB, Cedar Falls
I’ve mentioned this before but it bears repeating that Cedar Falls develops players as well as any program in the state. Legendary Tiger coach Pat Mitchell would be proud of how the staff there as continued his great legacy of doing that.
That’s why it shouldn’t be surprising that two of the first three student-athletes featured in this rundown hail from Cedar Falls. And when you watch Kies’ get after it during his junior highlight video, there’s a case in point.
Kies (6-2, 210) plays linebacker in high school. That could end up being his destination in college but don’t rule out a move to safety in some defensive systems. He can run as evidenced by his part in the Drake Relays shuttle hurdle relay championship team and him running the third leg on a 4×100 foursome that broke the school record this spring. Strength also doesn’t seem to be an issue for Kies.
Iowa State and Northern Iowa played host to Kies for games last season. He’s attended junior days at those two schools and South Dakota State this spring.
Andrew Price Andrew Price 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH West Des Moines Valley | 2025 IA , S, WDM Valley
It was a busy spring for Price. He visited Iowa, Iowa State, South Dakota State and Northern Iowa. The Jackrabbits stopped by Valley this month and invited him to summer camp.
His junior highlight video starts with him laying a guy out and then making a tackle on kickoff coverage. A lot of the other clips feature Price (6-0, 198) shining at safety.
Price plays the game fast and brings a lot of energy. He diagnoses plays quickly and breaks on the ball well whether it’s being carried or thrown. He’s quick laterally and plays under control with good balance.
College programs also would be getting a nice addition on special teams, as mentioned earlier.
Myles Gardner Myles Gardner 6'4" | 195 lbs | LB Waterloo West | 2025 State IA , ATH, Waterloo Columbus
Gardner (6-4, 195) is an interesting prospect as a guy who could end up on either side of the ball. His Hudl page includes separate highlight videos of him playing offense and defense as a junior last fall.
As a receiver, his size and athleticism make him a tough cover. He complements the natural ability with good speed and route running ability.
At linebacker, Gardner benefits from the quickness he shows on offense. He does well defending the run and looks smooth in pass coverage. His talents would also aid a program’s special teams.
Colleges have noticed. He took spring visits to North Dakota State, Wayne State, Western Illinois, Northern Iowa and South Dakota State after attending a game at Iowa State last weekend. North Dakota came to watch him work out last week.
