Tioga, Easton lead multisport standouts at 4A outdoor track state

Tioga and Warren Easton led the Class 4A team performances in the Class 4A outdoor track and field state championships.   And, like many of their counterparts around the state, the Indians and Eagles saw a slew of strong performances from athletes with football backgrounds and futures among their highlights.   Here's a look at the more than 60 student-athletes we know with varying high school football backgrounds — including several notable Division-I prospects — who scored points for their teams in the meet.     Germain Smith-Mata — 5-11 DB — Warren Easton (2024)   The Eagles' standout sprinter, who also has some football background on his high school resume, earned Outstanding Performer honors in Class 4A with his sweep of the sprints, including a composite-record 10.13-second 100-meter dash, a 21.24-second 200-meter and 47.70-second 400-meter. Smith-Mata also ran a leg of the Eagles' second-place 4x400-meter relay (3:21:32).     Roy Morris Jr. — 5-11, 155 DB/WR — Evangel Christian (2024)   Morris helped highlight a strong day for his own Eagles with a win in the long jump (23-09.50) and anchoring of the winning 4x200-meter (1:28.20) and second-place 4x100-meter (42.35) relay teams with Joshua Isaac, [player_tooltip player_id='740992' first='Johnny' last='Casey'] Jr. and [player_tooltip player_id='421531' first='Tyreek' last='Robinson']. He also ran a 23.25-second 200-meter dash, an eighth-place finish in Class 4A. Anthony Allen — 6-1 DB/WR — The Willow School (2026)   The sophomore safety helped highlight a strong day for The Willow School in both the girls and boys competition with his 800-meter victory (1:56.98) and legs in the class record-setting 4x800-meter relay (7:56.34) and the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay (3:22.85). Delaney Gunnar — 5-11, 200 DL/LB — Tioga (2024)   The big edge rusher helped lead his Indians' state championship performance with his win in the javelin (169-01.00).     Armidre Evans — 5-11, 160 DB — Westgate (2024)   The long, lead Tigers defensive back said he felt doubted entering the day, but swiftly disproved any potential critics with his victories in both the 110-meter hurdles (14.34) and 300-meter hurdles (38.02) before also running a leg of the seventh-place 4x400-meter relay (3:25.04). James Hollingsworth — 6-3, 180 DB — Northwood (Shreveport) (2024)   The rangy corner led his Falcons' strong state performances with his third-place 300-meter hurdles (39.59) and legs of a pair of podium-finishing relay teams: the winning 4x100-meter relay (42.29) and third-place 4x200-meter relay (1:28.56) — both of which also featured ranked younger defensive backs Jeremiah Johnson and [player_tooltip player_id='1237641' first='Justin' last='Thomas'].     Landon Vallee — 6-1, 280 OL — Grant (2024)   The Northwestern State-bound interior lineman finished second in the shot put (52-11.75).     Miles Torres — 5-11, 150 DB — Warren Easton (2026)   The Eagles' sophomore defensive back ran a leg of the second-place 4x400-meter relay (3:21.32) and finished third in the long jump (22-03.25) and eighth in the 400-meter run (50.92). Latrell Johnson — 5-9, 150 DB — Northside (2024)   The Vikings' defensive back finished third in the 400-meter run (48.65) and ran a leg of the fifth-place 4x400-meter relay (3:24.15).     Dylan Compton — 5-9, 150 DB/LB — North DeSoto (2024)   Compton finished third in the 800-meter run (1:58.19) and led off the fourth-place 4x800-meter (8:13.21) and eighth-place 4x400-meter (3:26.12) relay teams that also included ranked defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1203212' first='Lake' last='Bates'].     Wyatt Smith — 6-0, 165 DB — Tioga (2024)   The Indians' safety finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (39.73) and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.27) and ran a leg of the third-place 4x400-meter relay (3:22.18).     Preston Sentino — 5-11, 180 QB/ATH — St. Michael the Archangel (2024)   The Warriors' senior leader finished fourth in the long jump (22-00.25) and fifth in the triple jump (44-07.00).
