PRZ Next Combine Texas: Young Guns

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Texas boys came out deep for the Prep Redzone Combine series held at the beautiful facilities in Nolan Catholic High School. I can honestly say there were some DOGS in Ft. Worth this weekend and they came from all over the state. This write up has been a long time coming. RJ looked extremely comfortable in every footwork and QB drill that he preformed. He moves fluidly, stands tall and keeps his eyes down field. It was no surprise that he stood out in the 1v1's as well. When he was with the RB's v LB's he was able to show off his touch passes into the corner of the end zone as well as the zip that he possesses on out routes. Against the DB's, Hicks was letting it fly. I saw him warming up prior to the camp starting and I knew that I was going to some big throws from him throughout the day. Knapp didn't let me down either. My guy got after it right out of the gate with a rail shot during 1v1's. His throwing mechanics are there and he looks extremely relaxed during his deep balls, nothing looks forced. The fact that he made some of his throws seem effortless goes to show the type of work that he puts in on his own time. He was near flawless in the drill leading up to the 1v1's and it was a foreshadowing of what I would see when he got the opportunities to chunk the rock to the wideouts. The dude has an impressive arm for any grade, let alone a eighth grader. I did not get to see him work with the running backs, but what I saw from him against the DB's was more than enough for me to take note that he's the real deal. Brown was dotting up the receivers during camp on multiple routes intermediate and deep. When I went and looked at my roster and realized that Mason was only in 6th grade i had to double check. Mason Smith-Miller is a DUDE! His attitude and effort were on full display on Saturday. It was a treat to get to watch this kid carve up some of the older DB's. He has a very strong arm at a young age and standing at a lanky 5'10ish only sets him apart from his class further.
