Last Saturday, I made the trip to Lincoln to see the NE Red Wolves 7v7 host their second annual Mother’s Day Showdown. This tournament featured some great teams from Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, and Missouri. The competition was fierce, with several players leaving huge impressions throughout the day.
To kick off my coverage from the tournament, I have four players from Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri who caught my attention. Check back for more standout players.
Thank you to the Nebraska Red Wolves 7v7 for hosting the tournament and having me out again!
Jaxx DeJean Jaxx DeJean 6'4" | 200 lbs | ATH OABCIG | 2027 State IA | 2027 | ATH | OABCIG (IA) | 6’4″ 200 lbs | Carroll Chargers
– The top player in the PRZIA 2027 rankings and Saturday just further proved why Jaxx is primed to be a hot commodity on the recruiting circuit.
– DeJean had several highlight plays on Saturday, including tough catches through contact, catches at the high point, and forcing turnovers on defense.
– Jaxx displays great awareness on the field and always seems to find open windows to slip into for his QB to find him. Tough matchup in the redzone.
– DeJean was also a ball-hawking safety on defense where he displayed excellent range and closing speed with no hesitation to go up and snag the ball for himself. Reads the QB very well and flows the ball effortlessly.
Jayvyn Jenkins | 2026 | DB | Cardinal Ritter (MO) | 6’0″ 185 lbs | 5P Pierre Desir
– A very pleasant surprise on Saturday. I’m personally not too familiar with the Missouri prep scene, but it seems like the Cardinal Ritter junior could be a hidden gem in the 2026 class.
– I mostly saw Jayvyn at cornerback, but according to his Twitter, he can also play safety, so his defensive versatility is evident.
– Good size and frame for a DB with long arms, which he uses very well to jam up receivers at the line of scrimmage.
– Smooth, fluid hips and feet allow him to stay locked in with his opponent, along with good coverage instincts and a quick break on the ball.
– Could definitely see Jayvyn making some waves in the upcoming seasons if he continues to develop his game.
Jack Vyhnalek Jack Vyhnalek 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Seward | 2026 State NE | 2026 | WR/LB | Seward (NE) | 6’3″ 200 lbs | Seward Birds 7v7
– Here’s a 2026 prospect who I think is bound to blow up eventually.
– Jack is a player with a lot of upside as a pass catcher, as he can fill the role of both tight end and receiver, with inside-outside versatility.
– Very tough to defend in the redzone as he utilizes his size and athleticism to create mismatches.
– Defensively, I like Vynhalek’s ability to lead and take charge. He showed the ability to pick up on offensive schemes during pre-snap and can communicate assignments and adjustments to his teammates very well.
Caleb Wilcox Caleb Wilcox 5'8" | 155 lbs | DB Lincoln East | 2026 NE | 2026 | DB/WR | Lincoln East (NE) | 5’7″ | Red Wolves 7v7
– Caleb has been on a tear in the past two weekends with a strong Combine Series showing and some great games with the Red Wolves last Saturday.
– Caleb has the talent to play on either side of the ball, but his coverage savvy projects him best at DB.
– Very shifty and agile. You can put him in the slot where he can stick right onto the receiver’s hip and follow them through the route.
– I was very impressed with Caleb’s strength and physicality on both sides of the ball.
– At defensive back, he can throw hands with receivers to try and disrupt their route timing and use them to break up passes. As a receiver, his strong hands help him make tough catches through traffic and when fighting through contact.
