Continue ReadingThe circuit of back-to-back-to-back weekends on the road has come to a conclusion, as I was fortunate to attend Coach Nick Pennisi’s PSR BIG Camp Series on Saturday, May 11. This marks the second year in a row that I covered the event. Pennisi has grown his significantly from last year. With over 400 prospects registered for the event, I had my work cut out for me to identify and scout some of the event’s standouts. As I feverishly wrote notes, here are my scouting notes from the position group disclosed in this article’s title.
PSR BIG Camp Series Event Coverage
Scout’s Notebook: Defensive Line
Rancocas Valley’s Michael Gerbavac Michael Gerbavac 6'1" | 200 lbs | DL Rancocas Valley | 2025 NJ was an edge-type prospect that came equipped with some technical attributes that project him out as a piece ready to positively impact his defense. I first noticed Gerbavac’s hips beginning to emerge and get around, particularly as the day wore on. Gerbavac has a long frame, which although adds to his blocking surface, can help him create space and separation while defending. Lastly, I thought Gerbavac ripped very well, grabbing grass to dip his shoulder, violently load up, and finishing with his fist near his ear….. Oscar Douglas Oscar Douglas 6'1" | 245 lbs | DL Montclair | 2025 NJ , of Montclair, showed that he has good, quick feet. The agility of his feet showed during work on the bags where he was able to change change directions fluidly. Douglas’ ability also showed up in 1-on-1s as he was able to set up moves where he moved laterally very well.
Darell James Darell James 6'2" | 210 lbs | DL East Orange | 2025 NJ from East Orange is an interesting prospect that I have been following for a bit now and his upside is perhaps as high as it has ever been. Fully grown at 6’2″ 225lbs, the Jaguar did a really good job in terms of using his size and strength to win his matchups. He worked tirelessly to turn the corner, but what impressed me most about James is that when he did this, he kept churning, milling, and fighting to get his hips around as he pursed….. Another player with characteristics akin to James was Montgomery’s Ben Park Ben Park 6'0" | 225 lbs | DL Montgomery | 2026 NJ . Park, similarly, possessed a motor that was always running, as he was never parked; that motor was matched by few during that Monroe afternoon. Relentless in his attack, I watched as he continued to pursue the quarterback, work to turn corners, and use his hands to fight.
For the third time in as many weekends I got to see
Cinque Matthews
Cinque
Matthews
5'8" | 175 lbs | DL
Haddon Heights | 2027
NJ
. The Haddon Heights product’s success is built upon the foundation of the outright speed he possesses. He uses this speed to lure offensive tackles into deep, horizontal kick steps – often for him to set up an inside move. He also his a speed-rip combo, where slower matchups were unable to get their hands on him with any meaningful application of force….. Coming from Bernards was
Daniel Ferguson
Daniel
Ferguson
6'3" | 205 lbs | DL
Bernards | 2025
NJ
. Unfamiliar with Ferguson and is game, the 2026 graduate showed quick feet during drill work on the bags. He ought to be a prospect that we check back in on after the first four games of the season.
