It's never too early to look at signal callers in the Tar Heel state. Ahead of an important summer for these rising sophomores, Prep Redzone North Carolina takes a look at the 2027 quarterbacks we have squarely on our radar. Could any of these guys make a run to the top of the class?

2027 Quarterbacks to Watch

[player_tooltip player_id='254550' first='Ethan' last='Royal'], 6'1 170, Hough

Royal has all the tools to be the top quarterback in the class, even though he doesn't have much experience as a starter. Royal made it into six games last year and has a big arm and legitimate dual-threat ability. He throws an excellent ball on the run and has a quick release. Mechanically, he's advanced as a passer, and his arm should continue to develop as he gets older.

[player_tooltip player_id='1153229' first='Mason' last='Holtzclaw'], 6'4 190, Christ School

Holtzclaw is one of the most physically impressive quarterbacks you'll see. Already 6-foot-4, he's still growing into his frame. While he hasn't broken out as a runner on the field yet, he competes in the 100 meters and has plenty of straight-line speed. He has a high-and-tight release that allows him to maintain a high level of accuracy. He's another guy who could push for the top spot in the rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='1050807' first='Tyson' last='Broadway'], 6'0 160, Southern Durham

Broadway had some of the best numbers in the state among freshmen last season, completing 73% of his passes for over 1300 yards and adding 300 yards on the ground at nearly 12 yards an attempt. When he keeps a calm base in the pocket, he's extremely accurate, though occasionally his footwork will get off. He's certainly one to watch, especially if he grows a bit more.

[player_tooltip player_id='1030649' first='Gearey' last='Johnson'], 6'4 200, Mt. Zion Christian Academy

I need to get my eyes on Johnson in person, as he doesn't have a lot of film, but I've been impressed with the little I have seen. He's an athlete, averaging 20 yards a touch as a receiver in eighth grade on varsity. He put up over 400 yards on the ground and 1100 yards through the air last year and impressed our scouts at the Prep Redzone Combine.

[player_tooltip player_id='915835' first='Jared' last='Street'], 6'0 160, West Cabarrus

Because of his slighter build, Street often has to throw his whole body into deeper throws, but he flashes incredible accuracy. He puts a lot of zip on his short and medium throws, especially over the middle of the field, and has excellent athleticism. His mechanics will need to change a bit as he grows, but there's much potential here.

[player_tooltip player_id='1106521' first='JaRon' last='Ward'], 6'0 190, Hendersonville

Ward had an up-and-down year as a freshman, dominating against lesser competition and struggling against some of the better teams on the schedule, but the potential is there. He manipulates his arm angle well to throw around defenders and out of collapsing pockets, a trait that most younger quarterbacks don't display.
