Cartwright is one of the more athletic and violent linebackers in the region heading into this Fall, and is a no brainer next level kid at a high level. He has good length, range, open field speed and is a sure tackler out in space that takes good angles to ball carriers and brings a thump at contact. He is a true mike backer that can really cover ground, shoot gaps quickly and make plays into the backfield consistently while able to knife around blockers or take on pulling guards/second level blockers with ease. He has a very high IQ and can quickly process plays and has a quick trigger and explodes through contact at the POA. Also able to rush the passer and cover in space, Cartwright is a complete backer that has the size, speed and physicality to make an impact at the college level.
Highlights
Sandoval is a no brainer next level kid at the D3+ level and should fit nicely at outside linebacker in college. He is very smooth in space with good open field range and closing speed, while a solid open field tackler that tracks down ball carriers and brings a thump at the point of attack. He shows that he can pull the chain, track down ball carriers in the backfield while quickly knifing through blockers and provides a pass rush off the edge while able to shut down an entire half of the field. Against the run, he shows he can strike tackles, violently get off blocks and redirect/chase down from the backside while not afraid to drop down inside the box in order to make plays. He also shows cover abilities downfield, fluid hips in transition and uses his physicality to jam up bigger receivers and tight ends. The Patterson product is a very balanced overall player that should be one of the central valley’s top defenders returning this fall.
Highlights
Willis is another true outside linebacker that is very explosive in the short area, does a nice job at setting the edge out in space and coming up to take on blockers and get active in the inside run game. He has closing speed in space, is a sure tackler in the open field and shows that he can rush the passer off the edge with natural bend, an explosive first step and good timing when blitzing. Willis is a high motor kid that fly’s around and makes plays sideline to sideline while showing he can redirect against play action passes to get into space, and does a nice job at scraping over the top when making plays over the top. He is a no brainer next level kid at the D3+ level, and should draw interest from both the NWC and SCIAC conferences through his Senior season.
