The athletes were plenty and I’m pumped to present the first part of my continuing coverage of the best LBs I saw!
Casey Macziewski Casey Macziewski 5'11" | 190 lbs | LB Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton | 2025 State MN 5’11” 195 lbs DGF 2025
Starting us off we have Casey Macziewski, a thick three-sport athlete who racked up over 95 tackles during his junior season with DGF. The state-entrant wrestler was able to close distances quickly when pursuing ball carriers and showed off some impressive explosiveness with a 9’4″ broad jump and a 4.5 shuttle time. Early on Macziewski looks like a high-level outstate prospect.
Jax Breitenfield 6′ 195 lbs Rochester Mayo 2025
Breitenfield is a tank hailing from southern Minnesota. He ran a 5.1 40-yard dash and showed off some great hip-tracking ability when working on drills against the runningbacks. Three of the four starting linebackers from Mayo graduated last season, and we could see Breitenfield take on an extended role during his senior year.
William Raymond 5’11” 185 lbs Maple Grove 2026
Raymond has the misfortune of being on a loaded Maple Grove team, so while he hasn’t seen any varsity time yet, he still looks like he will evolve into a fine 6A starting linebacker. Raymond ran a 5.0 40, with a 4.5 shuttle, and a 9′ broad jump. All of which is very impressive, especially for a sophomore. I expect him to see some varsity time during his junior year before potentially breaking out during his senior season.
Caleb Johnson Caleb Johnson 6'0" | 205 lbs | ATH Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton | 2025 State MN 6’1″ 210 lbs DGF 2025
Very few athletes excite me for their senior year like DGF’s QB/LB Caleb Johnson. His athletic accomplishments speak for themselves, he’s a four-sport athlete, a 215AA wrestling state runner-up, and earned All-District + All-Section awards during his junior season. His testing numbers were great too. Two times he ran a 5.0 40s, two times he ran a 4.3 shuttle, and managed to snag a 9’6.5″ broad jump. I think Johnson’s recruiting is going to pick up drastically this summer.
Hunter Hanegraaf 5’11” 190 lbs Forest Lake 2025
The Forest Lake prospect caught my attention early on with a pair of 4.9 40s before immediately following it up with a 4.5 shuttle. The 2025 captain saw solid time last year amassing 18 tackles with 2.0 sacks, and looks like he’s going to build on that well for his senior season. Hanegraaf has impressive closing speed and also showed off solid recovery and pursuit pass coverage. Hanegraaf is on track for a big senior year with a potent Rangers defense.
Mason Davis Mason Davis 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Chaska | 2026 State MN 6’1″ 205 lbs Chaska 2026
Davis didn’t see much time for Chaska as a sophomore, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a sophomore that’s as physically impressive as him. Two 5.0 40s set the tone for the evening, and he would follow that up with a 4.4 shuttle drill performance. Davis also jumped a great 9’6″. If he can put together some comprehensive junior tape, I could see Davis shooting up recruiting boards.
